Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Priya,
I am doing well and hoping you are also sailing in the same boat. I was over the moon when I heard that you are also applying for the same university from where I did my Bachelors of Science in Nutrition. I am writing this letter to share my experience and knowledge while studying this course in Punjab Agricultural University.
In depth, this course is really amazing because it provides you deep knowledge of human physiology, biochemistry of food, allergies, therapeutic diet plans as per the patient/resident needs, and many more. The interesting part for me in this course was calculating tube feed calories and other macro nutrients as per the recommended physcian's request.
I strongly suggest you to be the part of this university because if you want to go for your higher educations such as for masters in any foreign country then Punjab Agricultural University is having great impact and value at the global level.
I would like to share how you can apply for this course. Please go on university's website and search for your program and apply. It will take 2-3 days to get response. Once, you will receive their reply they will share all basic information with you and one more important thing, there will be a written exam.
I have a faith in you and I strongly believe that you can pass this test easily. If you need any other assistance, you can ping me anytime.
Hoping to hear from you soon. Take care of your self.
Yours truthfully,

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response covers all parts of the bullet points effectively. You successfully give details of the course by mentioning specific subjects such as 'human physiology' and 'calculating tube feed calories'. You explain why you recommend the university by highlighting its global value and impact for higher education, and you provide helpful advice about the application process, including visiting the website and preparing for the written exam. The tone is appropriately friendly and conversational, fulfilling the purpose of a letter to a friend. The bullet points are fully expanded with relevant, realistic details, meeting the criteria for a Band 7.5 or 8.0 level response.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organised with a clear beginning, middle, and end. Each paragraph serves a distinct purpose corresponding to the bullet points in the prompt. You use appropriate paragraphing and basic cohesive devices such as 'In depth', 'The interesting part', and 'I would like to share'. However, referencing and transitions can occasionally feel slightly mechanical, such as the abrupt shift in 'Once, you will receive their reply they will share all basic information with you and one more important thing'. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear and easy to follow, making this a solid performance for Coherence and Cohesion.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating topic-specific terms related to nutrition and university studies, such as 'human physiology', 'biochemistry of food', 'therapeutic diet plans', and 'macronutrients'. There are some nice phrasings like 'over the moon' and 'sailing in the same boat', although the latter is a bit of a cliché. You make a few minor lexical inaccuracies, such as 'higher educations' (should be 'higher education') and 'physcian's' (spelling error: 'physician's'). Despite these occasional errors, the vocabulary is flexible enough to convey precise meaning, supporting a Band 7.0 score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
The letter displays a good mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'I was over the moon when I heard that you are also applying...' and 'if you want to go for your higher educations... then Punjab Agricultural University is having great impact'. You demonstrate good control of punctuation and tense usage overall. However, there are some minor grammatical errors and awkward phrasing, such as 'from where I did my Bachelors' (better as 'where I completed my Bachelor's') and 'is having great impact' (better as 'has a great impact'). There are also minor punctuation errors, such as the comma splice in 'Once, you will receive their reply...'. These errors do not impede communication, placing the response comfortably in Band 7.0.
