Dear .................. ,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Hye Lina,
I hope you are doing great.
I am writing to advice you about how to applying for the same course that I did in the university and give suggestions how to apply there.
I hope you know that Brock University is one of the best university in Canada. They are going to open admissions for January Intake. The Early Childhood Education is 16 weeks course and its an hybrid course. You have to take three days in person classes and the rest of the two days online. Where you can learn all behavioural and phychological theories about children.
The university it self has a great reputation of it in canada. Highly professional professors from Quebec, Australia and America. Entrance awards apply in each smester fee If you got 4.00 GPA in previous studies. You just have to register yourself on the portal and log in with your credentials and fill out an online form. For identification documents you have to submit your Passport number with previous degree. But they have very limited number of seats. Therefore, I recommend you to apply as soon as possible.
I hope I explained everything well to you. Do let me know if you need help in registration, filling out form or documentation.
Yours Sincerely,
Raana Rao

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response covers all parts of the task well. You successfully gave details of the course, such as stating that 'The Early Childhood Education is 16 weeks course and its an hybrid course' with three days in-person and two days online. You explained why you recommend the university by mentioning its 'great reputation' and 'highly professional professors from Quebec, Australia and America.' You also provided clear advice on how to apply, guiding your friend to 'register yourself on the portal and log in with your credentials.' Although there are some minor mechanical and grammatical errors throughout the letter, all three bullet points from the prompt are fully addressed and supported with relevant details, aligning well with the Band 7 requirements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter maintains a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. You begin with an appropriate informal greeting, move smoothly into the purpose of the letter, describe the course and university, offer application advice, and close with a helpful offer for further assistance. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different points, such as course details versus application steps. Cohesive devices are generally handled well, though some linking phrases are slightly repetitive or mechanical, such as 'I hope you know' and 'I hope I explained everything well.' Nevertheless, referencing and paragraph structure ensure the message flows logically from start to finish, fitting the Band 7 criteria.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is generally adequate and sufficient for the task, with some attempts at less common lexical items such as 'reputation', 'credentials', and 'behavioural and phychological theories'. However, there are noticeable spelling errors, including 'phychological' instead of 'psychological', 'smester' instead of 'semester', and 'it self' instead of 'itself'. Word choice is occasionally awkward, such as 'writing to advice you' instead of 'advising'. These lexical slips and minor inaccuracies prevent the response from reaching higher bands, placing it comfortably at a Band 6 where communication is clear despite some errors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as the relative clause in 'professors from Quebec, Australia and America' and conditional structures like 'If you got 4.00 GPA'. However, there are several grammatical and punctuation inaccuracies present. For example, 'writing to advice you about how to applying' contains incorrect verb forms, and 'its an hybrid course' misses an apostrophe. Additionally, articles are sometimes misused, as in 'one of the best university' instead of 'universities'. Despite these recurring errors in grammar and punctuation, they do not impede communication, matching the descriptors for Band 6.
