Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Rohan,
I hope you are doing well. I'm very excited to know about your new college jourany and I think this is your best step to chose mining course, as I know you inspired from my jourany and I would like to help you about this.
I completed four years post-graduation program in underground mining course at Norhern collage. This course is complete package to enter in the mining sector because this program not only provides you hand-on experience but also there is a well-structured theoretical segment, which can provide you a deep knowledge of underground work.
There are several reasons why I'm recommending you this particular college. Firstly, this college is collaborated with local mines, who provides them on site internship experiences. Moreover, most of the staff in this college are retired miners who have significant practical experience in this field.
It is very easy process to apply for this college, you just have to fill out your all information on a college portal and they will check your background within one week then you'll recieved a offer letter.
If you need further assistance, just give me a call.
Best regards,
Sim.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The student successfully addresses all three bullet points of the task prompt. First, the letter provides clear details about the course taken by stating 'four years post-graduation program in underground mining course at Norhern collage.' Second, it explains the recommendation of the university by highlighting the collaboration with local mines for internship experiences and the practical background of the staff, as seen in 'most of the staff in this college are retired miners.' Finally, it gives practical advice about how to apply using the online portal. The tone is appropriate for a friendly letter, and the purpose is clear throughout. The ideas are relevant and sufficiently developed for a Band 6.5 to 7.0 performance, earning a solid Band 6.5.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter maintains a clear overall arrangement and follows a logical structure. Each paragraph corresponds to a different aspect of the prompt, ensuring a coherent flow of ideas from the introduction to the course details, reasons for recommendation, and application steps. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly,' 'Moreover,' and 'If you need further assistance' are employed to guide the reader through the text, although referencing is sometimes slightly mechanical (e.g., 'this college' is repeated frequently). Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different points, allowing the reader to follow the letter easily. Overall, coherence and cohesion meet the requirements for a Band 6.5.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student displays an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for the task, attempting some less common collocations and topic-specific terms such as 'underground mining sector,' 'hand-on experience,' 'theoretical segment,' and 'on site internship experiences.' However, there are noticeable lexical and spelling inaccuracies that prevent a higher band, such as 'jourany' (journey), 'chose' (choose), 'Norhern collage' (Northern college), and 'recieved' (received). Word choice is occasionally imprecise, such as 'fill out your all information.' Despite these errors, communication is not impeded, and the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the intended message, aligning well with the Band 6 descriptor.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as the conditional clause 'If you need further assistance, just give me a call' and the relative clause 'miners who have significant practical experience.' There are several grammatical errors and awkward phrasings present throughout the text, including 'I'm very excited to know about' (hear about), 'you inspired from my jourany' (you are inspired by my journey), and 'It is very easy process to apply' (It is a very easy process). Punctuation and articles are also occasionally mishandled. While these errors occur frequently, they rarely impede the reader's overall understanding, which places this performance firmly at Band 6.0.
