Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Harry ,
I hope you are doing well, I just got your message you want to know about the cource which I had already completed. I have done my MBA because I have a business idea in my mind. When I started my cource at that time I had no idea it would be that much typical. Luckily, one of my professor taught me a lot of new things such as how to make a proper business plan , how we can control budget , how to grow our business and also some short of marketing as well.
If i talk about why you must choose this university there are plenty of reasons, one of them is they are flexible in terms of fee structure. You are allowed to pay your tutions through installments. Along with it, all the professorers are really helpfull, even if thet are not attending your class , you can reach out any teacher for guidence .
At the end, I would like to say, be carefull while applying because if you a miner mistake in your application form . It might ruin your carreer.
Yours sincerily
Sharry

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The student successfully covers all three bullet points required in the prompt. First, they provide details of the course taken, mentioning their MBA and the specific skills learned like business plans and budgeting. Second, they explain why the university is recommended by highlighting the flexible fee structure and approachable professors. Third, they give advice about the application process, warning the friend to be careful to avoid ruining their career. The tone is appropriately informal for a letter to a friend. The purpose is clear and well sustained throughout the response, fulfilling the Band 6 to 7 criteria well, though the ideas could be slightly more extended. Overall, it is a solid performance for Task Achievement.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter has a coherent overall arrangement, divided into logical paragraphs covering the greeting, the course details, the university recommendations, the application advice, and the sign-off. However, there are some mechanical transitions and run-on sentences that detract from the flow, such as 'I hope you are doing well, I just got your message...' which uses a comma splice. Paragraphing is generally used to separate distinct ideas, but the cohesive devices can feel slightly repetitive or clumsy at times, such as 'At the end, I would like to say'. Referencing is mostly clear, placing this section comfortably in the Band 6 category.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'flexible in terms of fee structure' and 'installments'. However, there are several spelling and word-choice errors that occur throughout the text, including 'cource' instead of course, 'typical' instead of difficult, 'short' instead of sort, 'professorers' instead of professors, 'helpfull', 'thet', 'guidence', 'carefull', 'miner', and 'carreer'. While these errors do not impede overall communication, their frequency prevents the score from reaching a higher band. A stronger focus on proofreading for basic vocabulary and spelling is necessary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over structure. However, grammatical and punctuation errors are frequent. There are notable issues with comma splices, such as joining independent clauses incorrectly: 'When I started my cource at that time I had no idea it would be that much typical.' Additionally, fragment and conditional errors appear, such as 'because if you a miner mistake in your application form', which lacks a verb and a main clause. Despite these errors, the meaning remains mostly clear to the reader, aligning well with the Band 5.5 to 6 descriptors.
