Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
You successfully covered all parts of the bullet points required for this General Training Task 1 letter. You greeted your friend appropriately, gave specific details about the Strategic Management in Accounting course at York University, explained why you recommend the university due to its experienced faculty, campus placements, and internship opportunities, and provided useful application advice regarding deadlines and registration requirements. Your tone is appropriately friendly and conversational, matching the required letter format. All information is relevant and well-developed, addressing the reader directly and meeting the communicative purpose of the task fully.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
Your letter shows a clear overall progression and logical organisation. Each paragraph has a distinct focus, moving smoothly from a congratulatory opening and course details to university recommendations and finally application advice. You made effective use of cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Furthermore', and referencing pronouns like 'which will play a crucial role'. However, paragraphing could be slightly refined, as some sentences run together or could be separated for better visual clarity. Overall, cohesion is managed well and the progression of ideas is easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrated a sufficient range of vocabulary for the task, successfully using subject-specific terms such as 'Strategic Management in Accounting', 'Taxation', 'Audit', and 'internship programs'. You attempted less common phrases like 'talent acquisition program' and 'indepth specialization'. There are a few minor spelling errors, such as 'particualr' instead of particular, 'semister' instead of semester, and 'submiting' instead of submitting, as well as some minor word choice issues like 'applying the jobs' instead of 'applying for jobs'. Despite these minor inaccuracies, your vocabulary is adequate and conveys your meaning clearly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You used a mix of simple and complex sentence structures throughout the letter, such as conditional clauses ('If you are interested in...') and relative clauses ('which will play a crucial role'). While you demonstrated good control over many of your sentences, there are several grammatical errors and punctuation slips, including run-on sentences ('...course that's the advantage with the course') and missing articles ('Faculity is highly experienced'). Punctuation also needs attention, particularly with comma splices and capitalization at the beginning of sentences ('Recently', 'University'). These errors occasionally cause minor pauses for the reader, though they do not impede overall communication.
