Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5

The candidate has successfully covered all parts of the letter prompt. You gave details of the course you took, specifically mentioning that it is 'structured around right product placement and building brand awareness' and incorporates creative skill sets. You also clearly explained why you recommend the university by highlighting the 'chances to work with varied established brands and the creative heads'. Furthermore, you provided helpful advice about the application process, advising Palak to 'create a student portal' and include 'a letter of intent'. The tone is friendly, natural, and entirely appropriate for a general correspondence to a friend. The purpose of the letter is fully achieved, and all bullet points are well-developed and clear.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The letter maintains a clear logical organisation and progression from the warm greeting down to the final sign-off. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas, such as course details, recommendations, and application steps. Cohesive devices are employed reasonably well, with transition phrases like 'First of all', 'Plus', and 'Finally' guiding the reader smoothly through the points. However, there are minor issues with referencing and punctuation cohesion, such as 'Its been a while we last spoke' and missing punctuation marks before conjunctions. Overall, the message flows naturally and is easy to follow, aligning closely with the Band 7 descriptors.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.5

The candidate uses a sufficient range of vocabulary for the task, demonstrating some flexibility and precision with terms like 'brand awareness', 'creative skill set', and 'letter of intent'. There are, however, a few noticeable word-choice and spelling inaccuracies, such as using 'incites' instead of 'insights', 'so you its provide you' which exhibits a slip in collocation and phrasing, and 'job ready'. Despite these minor errors, the vocabulary is adequate to convey the message clearly, and the attempt to use less common lexical items places the response comfortably in the Band 6.5 range, rounding to 6.5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The student exhibits a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating a reasonable ability to link clauses with relative pronouns ('which can help to make mindful decision'). However, there are several grammatical errors and punctuation lapses throughout the text, including missing apostrophes ('Its been a while'), missing articles ('structured around right product placement'), tense and pronoun confusion ('so you its provide you'), and comma splices ('I hope this helps , let me know'). These errors do not impede overall communication, but they occur with enough frequency to prevent the grammar score from reaching Band 7. The control is generally stable at a Band 6 level.
