Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Isha,

Hope you are doing good. its been an ages to meet you after my birthday party. I came to know that you are going to take pharmacy assistant course. I am very happy to see you at the same place where I was in 2 years ago. it's not very hard and I am sure you are enjoying this course while learning.

To start with the full details of this course, which is very simple. When you are enrolled to this course, there are some basic subjects to overview the course. After that, when you ready for the basics, you are going to take little difficult for some calculations and Pharma operations. The course will take 2 years to complete and having 4 semesters. Each semester is about to take 3 months with reading weeks and exams. I recommend you the same university I took because it is cheap as compare to other university. If I am talking about the education they provide, that is incomparable. You can apply through online with their websites and by phone, to book an appointment.

this is all, that you have to know about the course. If you face any difficulty, kindly reach me out any time.

Yours Friend,

Simran

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response successfully covers all the required bullet points from the prompt. You gave details of the course by explaining that it is a pharmacy assistant program taking two years with four semesters of three months each. You explained why you recommend the university by highlighting that it is affordable and provides incomparable education. Furthermore, you gave advice on how to apply through their website or by phone to book an appointment. The tone is appropriately informal and friendly, fitting a letter to a friend. The ideas are relevant and adequately developed to fulfil the task requirements, aligning well with the expectations for a Band 6.5 or Band 7 in task achievement.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter has an identifiable overall progression and attempts to organise information into paragraphs, starting with a friendly opening, moving into course details and recommendations in the body, and closing appropriately. However, paragraphing is somewhat weak and irregular, such as grouping multiple distinct ideas together in the second paragraph. Cohesive devices are sometimes mechanical or awkwardly used, such as 'To start with the full details of this course, which is very simple' and 'If I am talking about the education they provide, that is incomparable.' Referencing is generally clear, but the logical flow between sentences could be smoother with better transition markers, placing this aspect of writing firmly at a Band 6.0 level.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully communicating everyday concepts and course-related terms like 'semesters', 'exams', and 'pharmacy assistant'. However, there are noticeable word choice and collocation inaccuracies throughout the text, such as 'its been an ages' instead of 'it has been ages', 'take pharmacy assistant course' missing an article ('a'), and 'apply through online' instead of 'apply online'. While these errors do not impede communication, they restrict the lexical score to Band 6.0. Incorporating more precise terminology and natural collocations would elevate your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some attempts at subordination and relative clauses, such as 'When you are enrolled to this course, there are some basic subjects to overview the course.' However, there are frequent grammatical errors in tense, articles, and prepositions, including 'Hope you are doing good', 'where I was in 2 years ago', 'when you ready for the basics', and 'reach me out'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with lowercase letters at the beginning of sentences like 'its been an ages' and 'this is all'. Because these errors occasionally cause minor distractions while reading, a Band 5.5 is appropriate.
