Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response covers all three bullet points required in the task instructions. The student gives details of the course (Information Technology), explains why the university is recommended (high rating and good future demand), and provides advice about how to apply online through the admissions portal. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive, particularly regarding the benefits of the IT course. The tone is appropriate for an informal letter to a friend, beginning with 'Dear saliha,' and closing naturally with 'your friend, Noor'. While the ideas are slightly under-developed and lack extension, all parts of the prompt are addressed adequately, positioning this response firmly at Band 6.0.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The letter has a clear overall arrangement with paragraphs dedicated to separate points, fulfilling the basic structural requirements of a letter. However, the logical progression is hampered by awkward transitional phrases such as 'After that' and 'In the last'. Cohesive devices are sometimes mechanical or used inaccurately, and referencing is occasionally unclear, such as 'that course trend is on'. Paragraphing is present, but spacing and indentation are irregular. These features align with Band 5.5, showing some organisation and logical intent, but suffering from inadequate and repetitive cohesive devices.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, but range is limited and repetitive. The student uses basic terms and attempts some less common vocabulary ('demand', 'opportunity', 'portal'), but these are often accompanied by word-choice and spelling errors, such as 'recieved', 'appologize', 'addmision', 'waist', and 'higher' instead of 'hire'. Phrasing like 'every thing shift on computer' and 'most rating university' demonstrates noticeable lexical limitations and unnatural collocations that cause some difficulty for the reader, placing the lexical control at Band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but control is weak. There are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'apologize to sending' (instead of 'apologize for sending'), 'I am busy in my exams' (instead of 'busy with'), and 'you work not for just in your country infect other countries companies can higher you'. Punctuation and capitalization are also inconsistent, with lower-case letters used for proper nouns like 'saliha' and 'monday'. While communication is generally maintained despite these errors, the high frequency of inaccurate complex structures pulls the grammar score to Band 5.0.
