Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Srinivas,

I received your letter regarding the course which I pursued last year at university. I would be happy to give you some advice about the studying this subject at university.

I pursued an International Business Management course at university of east London. The course is structured as a 12months program and if you wanted you can opt-in for placement year also which wiill give you extra six months period to complete the course.

Therefore, This course is in high demand in the university of East london and i will truly recommend to choose this course especially this university because the modules hear are teach a real world experience modules. You can have a best teaching support and lecturers are support you even outside normal hours throgh the linkdin or via email. Another thing I enjoyed was the view of London City Airport from the university, where you can watch planes landing and taking off.

You can apply this course in the website directly and search for the coursers, there you can find different course structures in that you need to choose International business management. From that portal you can apply directly and give your personal details such as education background, nationality, contact details. Wait for the offer letter.

I hope to see you soon in London.

Best Wishes,

Damaraka Polisetty.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The student successfully addresses all three bullet points required in the task instructions. First, details of the course are given, identifying it as an International Business Management course structured as a 12-month program with an optional placement year. Second, recommendations for the university are provided, highlighting the real-world modules, teaching support, and access to lecturers outside normal hours. Finally, advice on how to apply is clearly explained, mentioning the direct website search and submission of personal details. The tone is appropriately friendly and conversational for a letter to a friend. The purpose of the letter is clear throughout, and all parts of the prompt are well-covered with relevant ideas, aligning nicely with Band 7 descriptors.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter is generally well-organized with a clear overall arrangement. Each paragraph has a distinct focus, starting with a friendly opening, moving on to course details, university recommendations, the application process, and concluding appropriately. Cohesive devices are used adequately, such as 'Therefore', 'Another thing I enjoyed', and 'From that portal'. However, there are minor cohesion issues and mechanical linking, such as the abrupt transition in 'Therefore, This course is in high demand', where 'Therefore' does not logically follow the preceding sentence. Paragraphing is handled sufficiently, but referencing and linking could be smoother to reach a higher band. Overall, the organization supports clear progression throughout.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for a general task. Words and phrases such as 'International Business Management', 'placement year', 'in high demand', and 'offer letter' show appropriate topic-specific language. However, there are some lexical errors and awkward word choices, such as 'modules hear are teach a real world experience modules' and spelling/capitalization mistakes like 'wiill', 'throgh', and 'linkdin'. Despite these errors, the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the message clearly, and the student attempts less common lexical items, fitting the Band 6 profile well.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'The course is structured as a 12months program and if you wanted you can opt-in for placement year also which wiill give you extra six months period'. There are several grammatical errors and punctuation issues throughout the text, including tense inconsistencies ('are teach' instead of 'teach' or 'are taught'), missing articles ('at university of east London'), and spelling slips ('wiill', 'coursers'). Nevertheless, these errors rarely impede communication, and the meaning remains clear. The control of grammar is acceptable for a Band 6 score.
