Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The letter successfully covers all three bullet points from the prompt, addressing the course details, the reasons for recommending the university, and the application procedure. For instance, the writer names the course as Developmental Services Worker and mentions specific subjects like Psychology. However, some ideas are noticeably under-developed or vague, such as the brief mention of career growth without further elaboration. The response easily meets the requirement of fully addressing all parts of the task while leaning towards a stronger level by presenting clear and relevant information, though further expansion on how to apply or why the environment is beneficial would push it higher.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter maintains a coherent overall arrangement with a logical flow from greeting to course details, recommendations, and application steps. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate each main idea. Nevertheless, cohesion is at times mechanical or faulty, as seen in the slightly repetitive transitions and referencing issues, such as saying 'The university name is Fleming Abroad and the course is...' rather than flowing more naturally. While the letter progresses logically and uses basic cohesive devices adequately, it lacks the flexible and smooth transitions characteristic of a higher band.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The writer demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'Developmental Services Worker' and 'Career growth'. However, there are noticeable lexical errors, awkward word choices, and spelling mistakes throughout the text, including 'enviornment' instead of environment, 'interesing for apply' instead of interested in applying, and 'lefy hand side' instead of left-hand side. These vocabulary and spelling inaccuracies do not severely impede communication, but they restrict the lexical score because precision and natural control are lacking.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writing displays a mix of simple and some attempted complex sentence forms, but it is hindered by frequent grammatical errors. There are issues with verb tenses and patterns, such as 'which is 2 years duration for get the certificate' and 'use smart digital screen for teach topic which makes comfortable to student'. Additionally, prepositional errors and missing articles, like 'at the university' versus 'in the university website', occur regularly. These errors in grammar and structural patterns demonstrate the control typical of a developing writer where complex structures are frequently faulty.
