Student answer (Band 5.5)

Dear Sana,

Hope you are doing great.i am writing you this letter in response to your querie about the B.ED course that i did from AIOU Islamabad.i will highly recommend you to apply for its admission as soon as possible. The main advantage of studying this subject is that after completing your master,s degree you can apply directly for the teaching job as this university provides you opportunity to study from home .Once you got registered for B.Ed program ,the university send you books for first semester and also assigns you a tutor to whom you will have to submit assignments while getting you tasks by the same tutor. You will have to done assignments by the last date and submit it through corrier, your assignment will get checked by your tutor and posted back to you address.

If I talk about the exams then you are informed about your exam center and location 1 month before so that you prepare for it .

In short words if i say you don't have to put so much effort ,because there are no physical classes. So my advice is that ,don't waste your time and get register online by www.aiou.edu.pk

and submit your fee. If you need any help or info regarding admission i am always there for you.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your letter successfully addresses all parts of the prompt, earning a solid score. You gave details of the course you took at AIOU Islamabad, explained why you recommend the university by highlighting the lack of physical classes and the study-from-home model, and gave advice about how to apply online and submit fees. However, your response sits at this level because some ideas are more fully developed than others. For example, while the explanation of the assignment submission process is quite detailed, the advice on how to prepare for exams is rather brief and limited to a single sentence about being informed one month in advance. To reach the next level, you would need to extend and support all parts of the prompt equally, offering deeper elaboration on every bullet point rather than treating some more cursorily.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

Your letter has a coherent overall arrangement, and you successfully adopt an informal, friendly tone suited to writing to a friend, beginning with 'Dear Sana,' and closing appropriately. The text is divided into paragraphs, which helps organise your thoughts. Nevertheless, the response achieves this specific band because cohesion is sometimes mechanical and referencing is not always clear. You rely heavily on repetitive transitional phrases such as 'If I talk about' or 'In short words if i say', and some sentences run together without adequate linking devices. Furthermore, paragraphing is not fully controlled; several distinct ideas, such as the application process and the link to the website, are lumped into a single block of text rather than being separated logically. To improve, you should use a wider variety of natural cohesive devices and organise your thoughts into clearer, more purposeful paragraphs.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully communicating your personal experience with phrases like 'study from home' and 'admission as soon as possible'. You also make attempts to use less common items such as 'querie' and 'corrier', though these reveal spelling issues. Your vocabulary choice is generally sufficient to convey your meaning, but errors in word form, spelling, and word choice prevent a higher score. Instances such as 'querie' instead of 'query', 'master,s' instead of 'Master's', 'corrier' instead of 'courier', and 'get register' instead of 'get registered' show a lack of precision. To achieve a higher band, you need to expand your vocabulary range, use less common lexical items more accurately, and pay closer attention to spelling and word forms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence forms in your letter, attempting conditional structures such as 'If I talk about the exams then you are informed...' and relative clauses. However, the text contains frequent grammatical errors and punctuation issues that place it at this level. There are noticeable punctuation and capitalization lapses, such as missing capital letters at the beginning of sentences ('i am writing', 'hope you are doing great.i am'), incorrect comma splices, and awkward phrasing like 'you will have to done assignments'. Additionally, articles and pluralization are occasionally mishandled, as seen in 'for the teaching job' and 'to your address'. To move up, you must increase your control over complex sentence structures and eliminate frequent errors in verb forms, punctuation, and agreement.
