Student answer (Band 5.5)

Dear Jay,

I hope you are doing well. I recieved your email recently and i am really happy that you are planning to take the same course as mine. Firstly, If you are thinking of taking supply chain management then you have to prepare for weekly exam and everyday presentation. However, you will find this one attractive as Yale University provide best instructors for this course.

Moreover, I realised i missed campus job session of this course, But i will strongly recommend you to attend this session so after completation you may be able to apply for a job in big company such as, Amazone, Flipkart etc. This is my number one reason to suggest this University as you can get direct job from campus.

I look forward to your positive response on this. Thank you so much for your time and understanding. Please let me know if you like my advice or not see you soon.

Love,

Suhani Jingar.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the main parts of the task by mentioning the course on supply chain management, recommending Yale University, and offering application advice regarding campus job sessions. However, the treatment of these bullet points remains somewhat limited and under-developed. For example, while the writer mentions weekly exams and everyday presentations as course details, the explanation lacks depth. Similarly, the advice on how to apply focuses narrowly on attending a campus job session rather than covering the broader application process for the course itself. Consequently, the ideas are partially covered and lack full elaboration, placing the task response at this level.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The letter maintains a coherent overall arrangement and follows a standard informal letter structure with an appropriate opening and closing. Basic cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'However', and 'Moreover' are used to connect ideas, although referencing and transitions can occasionally feel mechanical or repetitive, as seen with 'this session' and 'this course'. Paragraphing is generally observable, but the internal logical progression between sentences lacks seamless flow. To move further, the writer needs to employ a wider and more flexible range of cohesive devices and ensure smoother links between supporting details.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is minimally adequate for the task, featuring basic terms related to university studies and job applications. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary items such as 'supply chain management' and 'attractive', but there are noticeable lexical errors, including spelling mistakes like 'recieved' and 'completation', as well as word choice issues such as 'big company' instead of 'large corporations' or 'major firms'. These errors do not completely impede communication, but they highlight a limited and sometimes inaccurate lexical range that prevents a higher score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The text displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but attempts at complex structures are frequently affected by grammatical inaccuracies. There are frequent errors in verb tense consistency and auxiliary usage, such as 'Yale University provide' instead of 'provides', and missing capitalization and articles, as seen with 'i' instead of 'I' and 'Amazone, Flipkart etc'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma splices and capitalization after commas. These recurring errors in basic grammar and sentence construction reflect limited control over grammatical structures at times.
