Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Ramesh,
I hope this letter finds you in the best of health!
I am writing this letter regarding the course you are planning to take. My father told me that you have been looking to get some guidance on choosing the AI course in the same university where I had completed my bachelor's.
When I was in the university, I opted for cloud computing course as I had past experience of working in cloud computing infrastructures. The Artificial Intelligence department in the university is considered as the best department and professors use latest technology and softwares to teach students. So you have done a great job in choosing the course.
Moreover, the university is well reputed among corporates. The university has 98% placement rate and last year they hit the target of 100% placement. Also, the professors in the university are all PHD holders and are extremely professional. So, your decision of doing the couse in that university is right.
I would like to give you some advise about the registration process. The university offers limited seats and often get filled in a hour. It is better to go to the university library and use the local connection for registration. The university prefers applications which are filled on their own network.
All the best for your future!!
Best Regards,
Tarunjeet

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The letter addresses all three requested points: you describe your own cloud-computing course, recommend the university by referring to its reputation and employment outcomes, and offer application advice. The details about professors and placement rates make the recommendation relevant. However, the course information is brief, and the advice to register through the university library and local network is not explained or clearly supported, so this part may leave your friend uncertain. There is also a mismatch between your experience of cloud computing and your endorsement of the AI course; explain more directly why your experience makes you confident about this particular course. Developing these points with practical details would make the response more complete and persuasive.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall arrangement: an opening, a paragraph about your course and the university, a paragraph explaining its reputation, and a final paragraph with application advice. Linking expressions such as “Moreover,” “Also,” and “So” help show how ideas relate, and the reader can follow the main message. Some connections are repetitive, particularly the repeated conclusion that the friend has made the right choice. The transition from your cloud-computing experience to recommending an AI course could also be clearer. In addition, the registration instructions would benefit from a more logical sequence, such as explaining when to apply, what documents to prepare, and how to submit them. These refinements would make progression more natural.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for a friendly advice letter, including relevant terms such as “cloud computing infrastructures,” “placement rate,” and “registration process.” The meaning is generally clear, and the tone is appropriately warm. Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, however: “use the local connection for registration” is unclear, while “hit the target of 100% placement” sounds unnatural in this context. There are also spelling or word-form slips, including “softwares,” “couse,” and “advise” where the noun “advice” is needed. Choosing more precise expressions for the application process and checking spelling would improve accuracy and make the vocabulary sound more natural.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
The response includes both simple sentences and more developed structures, for example, “When I was in the university, I opted for cloud computing course as I had past experience…” The message remains understandable throughout, and several sentences are grammatically controlled. Some errors persist in articles, agreement, and sentence construction. For instance, “in the university” would usually be “at university” or “at the university,” and “often get filled in a hour” needs a clearer subject and the article “an.” The sentence beginning “The university offers limited seats” also has an agreement issue if referring to seats that fill quickly. Review article use and subject–verb agreement, and vary sentence patterns while keeping each sentence clear.
