Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Amelia,

I hope you are doing well. I received your letter that you wanted to apply for the same course which I did. I studied Business Management at International Business Management University. It was two years course. This course explained various subjects like business, accounts, economics and professors provide practical classes as well. This further helps to use those skills at the workplaces.

The university is best for the business studies. As, in future you are looking to start your own firm. So I would like to recommend you to apply for the International Business Management University. In addition, you can apply online. You visits to university's website and fill a form and submit to the administration department. They will reach out to you within four to five working days.

Moreover, during application process if you need any help please reach out to me. I will be more happy to help you. I look forward to hearing from you if you decided to apply for the university which I mentioned.

Yours faithfully,

Tara Duff

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three points: you identify the Business Management course and its subjects, recommend the university in light of Amelia’s plan to start a firm, and explain how to apply online. The practical classes and workplace skills are relevant details. The recommendation is clear, but the reasons for choosing this university are only briefly stated; for example, “The university is best for the business studies” is not supported with specific features such as teaching quality, facilities, or career support. The application advice is useful but could be more complete by mentioning documents or entry requirements. These details would make the advice more fully developed and persuasive.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall arrangement: course details come first, followed by the recommendation and application instructions, then a friendly closing. Paragraphing helps the reader follow these stages, and linking expressions such as “In addition” and “Moreover” show how points relate. Some connections are less smooth or precise, however. “As, in future you are looking to start your own firm” is an awkwardly attached explanation, and the transition from the university’s suitability to the online application process is abrupt. The final paragraph also repeats the offer of help and the request to hear back. More natural linking and clearer references would make the progression more fluent.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the main information, including course-related terms such as “Business Management,” “economics,” and “practical classes.” You also use some appropriate phrases for a personal letter, such as “reach out to me.” However, several word choices and collocations are noticeably unnatural or imprecise, including “the same course which I did,” “two years course,” and “best for the business studies.” “You visits to university’s website” also shows an inaccurate word form. These choices do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, but they limit precision and naturalness. Aim to use common collocations accurately and vary repeated general terms such as “course” and “university.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use a mixture of simple statements and longer sentences, and the main message remains understandable. There are some errors in verb forms, articles, agreement, and sentence construction. For example, “It was two years course” needs an article and a more suitable course-duration structure, while “You visits” has incorrect subject–verb agreement. In “I received your letter that you wanted to apply,” the clause does not express the intended meaning clearly; a structure such as “I was pleased to hear that you want to apply” would be more accurate. The sentence beginning “As, in future…” is also incomplete or awkwardly joined. Practise accurate complex clauses and check articles and verb forms.
