Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sam,
I hope you are doing well. I am delighted that you are thinking to pursue the same english course, I did last year.
I enrolled in this course last year and finished in six months. I payed approximately 600 cad for this course including books. I highly recommend you to do this course for the University of Baccom. This is not because of budget friendly fee structure but also they have highly experience staff. This will help you enhance your english writing and speaking skills effectively. Moreover, online applications are open for this course. My advice to you is fill application forms through college portal as they give priority to candidates who filled forms from their portal. One more thing, do forget to mention your study and work history in the application form.
If you need any further information regarding this course, let me know. I will try my best to assist you.
Best of luck!
See you soon!
Manish.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three requested points: you describe the course as an English course lasting six months and costing about 600 CAD, recommend the University of Baccom for its fees and staff, and advise Sam to apply through the college portal and include study and work history. The recommendation is clear and relevant. Some details, however, are less fully developed: the course description gives little information about what was studied, and the reasons for choosing the university could be supported with a specific example. The application advice is useful, but explaining where to find the form or what documents to prepare would make the letter more complete. The friendly opening and closing suit the task well.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter follows a sensible order, moving from the course details to your recommendation and then to application advice. Paragraphing helps distinguish the main purpose of each section, and phrases such as “Moreover” and “If you need any further information” guide the reader through the message. The overall progression is clear, though some links feel mechanical, particularly the repeated addition of points with “Moreover” and “One more thing.” The long second paragraph also combines several different ideas, so separating the recommendation from the application instructions would make the structure easier to follow. A few references, such as “this course” and “this,” could be made more specific for smoother cohesion.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for a friendly letter, including relevant terms such as “enrolled,” “application forms,” “priority,” and “study and work history.” The meaning remains clear throughout, and the tone is appropriate for writing to a friend. Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, however: “thinking to pursue” would be more natural as “thinking of pursuing,” “highly experience staff” as “highly experienced staff,” and “budget friendly fee structure” as “affordable fee structure.” “Enhance your English writing and speaking skills” is understandable, but “improve your English writing and speaking skills” is more idiomatic. Check spelling and capitalization too, especially “paid” and “English.” More precise, natural phrasing would strengthen the letter.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including a reason clause in “This is not because of … but also…” and a relative clause in “candidates who filled forms from their portal.” Most sentences communicate the intended meaning, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “I am delighted that you are thinking to pursue” needs “thinking of pursuing,” and “I payed” should be “I paid.” The sentence beginning “I highly recommend you to do this course” has an incorrect verb pattern; use “I highly recommend that you take this course.” In “My advice to you is fill application forms,” add “to” before “fill,” and “do forget” should be “don’t forget.” Review articles and sentence boundaries as well, particularly the comma splice in the opening.
