Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Ayesha,

Im glad to hear about your decision to persue your carrier in Medical Science. I received your letter yesterday in which you asked me to guide you regarding carrier in Medcial sciences.

I took same course in university. You will have multiple options after completion of your degree. You will be able to persue your specialization in gynecology and obstretics, Radiology, pediatrics, surgery, pathology and many more. People doing Medical sciences are mostly professionals. Thay have enthusiasm to serve their community and their country. I feel much relaxed and pleased when a patient comes back with positive and thankful comments. On the other side it is hectic and demanding. It needs a lot of hardwork and restless nights.

I recommend this subject as it makes you able to lead a healthy and satisfactory life. If you dont have job oppertunities, you can create an opportunity by establishing your own clinic. You can create a working environment of your choice.

You can get into this course by taking entrance exam set by University of Health Sciences. After examination process, University will call admission applications from successful students in different affiliated institutions. They will provide you with the list of Universities that fall in your merit range and you will select the one you want to go.

I hope to see you persuing your dreams in a well known university. Looking forward to arrange a meet up soon.

Your Sincere Friend,

Madiha Iqbal.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The letter addresses all three requested points and maintains a friendly, relevant purpose. You describe the medical course and possible specialisations, explain why you value the field, and give a clear outline of the entrance-exam and application process. Your personal comment about feeling pleased when patients return with thanks also supports your recommendation. The advice is useful, though the task asks why you recommend the university, and most of this explanation focuses instead on the benefits of studying medicine or opening a clinic. Add specific reasons for choosing that university, such as its teaching, facilities, or clinical experience, and develop the application advice with practical details. Overall, the main ideas are clear and supported, although some points are generalised.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall sequence: an opening, information about the course, reasons for recommending it, application guidance, and a friendly closing. Paragraphing helps the reader distinguish these stages, and links such as “On the other side” and “After examination process” signal relationships between ideas. This gives the response a coherent arrangement. However, some transitions feel mechanical or imprecise, and the course paragraph moves quickly from career options to professionals’ motivations and then to the demands of the work. The reference to “this subject” also shifts attention from the university itself. To strengthen progression, group related details more tightly and use clearer links to show how each point supports your advice.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of vocabulary for the topic, including “specialization,” “affiliated institutions,” “merit range,” and “establishing your own clinic.” These choices help convey information about medical study and applications. However, spelling errors and imprecise or unnatural word combinations are noticeable, including “persue,” “carrier,” “hardwork,” and “restless nights.” Some expressions, such as “lead a healthy and satisfactory life,” do not clearly express why the university is a good choice. The repeated use of “course,” “university,” and “opportunity” also limits variety. Aim for accurate spelling and more natural collocations, while choosing vocabulary that directly describes the institution and its strengths.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and more complex sentences, including “If you don’t have job opportunities, you can create an opportunity by establishing your own clinic.” Most of the message remains understandable, and the sequence of ideas is not obscured. However, grammatical control is uneven. For example, “I took same course in university” needs articles, while “After examination process” needs a clearer grammatical construction, such as “After the examination process.” The sentence “I recommend this subject as it makes you able to lead…” also has an awkward structure. Review articles, sentence patterns, and punctuation, and proofread carefully so that complex ideas are expressed accurately and naturally.
