Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Henry,
How are you? I trust you are doing great. I got the mail you sent about you wanting to study estate management being my course of study and also attending the same University of Nigeria enugu campus that i did.
Estate management is a nice course which is more of about property valuation, facility management, feasibility and property management. The course is a well grounded course that gives one a life time settlement after graduating.
I highly recommend the University of Nigeria, because it's a well known School and they have adequate, efficient and well experienced lecturers that are very good in their fields. The school also have alot of facilities such as a nice playground for baseball, a basketball court and also well equipped science laboratory for Students.
You can apply for the University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus in Enugu State, by going for on the school webite online via www.unn.admissionportal.com to apply for an admission into the school.
I hope to see you go through the school and also experienced a well serene and sound education.
Best regards
Chike

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three points: you describe estate management, recommend the university and provide an application route. The course details—property valuation, facility management and feasibility—are relevant, while the university’s lecturers and facilities give reasons for your recommendation. The advice to apply through the website is also clear, though it would be more useful with practical details such as checking entry requirements, preparing documents or confirming the application portal. Some claims, such as the course offering “a life time settlement,” are broad and not explained, and the closing wish is slightly unclear. The letter is appropriately directed to a friend and maintains a generally suitable personal tone. More specific, developed advice and clearer support for your claims would strengthen the response further.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a coherent overall arrangement: it opens with a personal greeting, moves through the course description and recommendation, then gives application advice before closing. Separate paragraphs help the reader identify each main point, and links such as “because” and “also” make relationships between ideas understandable. However, some connections are mechanical or imprecise, particularly the opening sentence, which combines several ideas and is difficult to follow. The facilities list also shifts quickly from general praise to examples without explaining their relevance to estate management. Clearer sentence boundaries and more deliberate transitions between the course, university benefits and application steps would make the progression smoother and more flexible.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for the subject, including “property valuation,” “facility management,” “feasibility” and “lecturers,” so the reader can understand the course and your reasons for recommending the university. There are also attempts at more descriptive language, such as “well grounded” and “well equipped.” However, several choices are inaccurate or unnatural, including “life time settlement,” “go through the school” and “well serene and sound education.” Spelling and form issues such as “alot” and “webite” also reduce precision. Aim for natural collocations and more exact wording—for example, describe career prospects rather than promising a settlement, and say that a university offers a supportive learning environment. This would make your vocabulary more reliable and appropriate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response includes both simple statements and some longer structures, such as “I highly recommend the University of Nigeria, because…” and the sentence explaining how to apply. Meaning is generally recoverable, but errors in agreement, verb forms, articles and sentence construction are noticeable. For example, “The school also have” should use a singular verb, and “also experienced” in the closing should be “also experience.” The opening sentence beginning “I got the mail…” is overloaded and has an unclear grammatical relationship between its clauses. Capitalisation and punctuation are inconsistent, including “i” and “Students.” Work on accurate subject–verb agreement and verb forms, and divide long sentences into clearer units while retaining some varied sentence structures.
