Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Maria,
I hope this letter finds you in great spirit. I'm writing in response to your letter seeking advice on subject selection. Recently, I have completed my degree and now finding versitality in career selection.
I did pharm D from Punjab University in year 2025 and now things have got change so much. It's a five years professional degree assembling with multiple vivas, practicals and exams in annual module. It's a plus point because you find ample time to engage yourself in other short courses. Teachers teaches you therapeutic drug monitoring, pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics not only in therapeutic mode but also in practical mode for better understanding.
Beyond that, I definitely urges you to enroll in my university for multiple reasons. Firstly, It's the most prestigious one conducting pharmacy since 1947. It's the solely government university offering fuly funded scholarships for high achievers. Most importantly, the policy makers prioritise students need and have legislations to address contemporary issues.
In the context of applying criteria, I definitely force you to check the official website on regular basis to get the admission and avail scholarship on first come first serve basis. Things have got changed much within a year, I suggest you to have one physical visit to get an idea.
Look forward to have a positive response from your side.
Yours faithfully,

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three requested points: you describe the five-year PharmD course and its practical and theoretical components, give reasons for recommending Punjab University, and offer application advice. The recommendation is clear, with details about its history, scholarships and student-focused policies. This is a relevant, purposeful response, but some points are less fully developed than others. For example, “check the official website” and make “one physical visit” are useful suggestions, yet you could explain what documents or deadlines Maria should check, or whom to contact. The course description is more specific, though “things have got change so much” does not clarify what has changed. More precise supporting detail would make the advice more fully developed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall arrangement: an opening, a paragraph about the course, one explaining the university recommendation, and a final paragraph on applying. Sequencing words such as “Firstly” and “Most importantly” help signal the reasons, and the reader can follow the main message. However, some linking is mechanical, particularly “Beyond that” and “In the context of applying criteria,” and the latter makes the transition less natural. The opening also moves quickly from your degree to career selection without clearly connecting that point to Maria’s question. A more direct progression—course experience, reasons to choose the university, then practical application steps—would strengthen cohesion. The closing is appropriate, although a conventional friendly sign-off would better match the relationship.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range for the topic, including subject-specific terms such as “therapeutic drug monitoring,” “pharmacodynamics” and “pharmacokinetics,” as well as “fully funded scholarships” and “contemporary issues.” These choices make the course description informative. There are also several inaccurate or unnatural choices that reduce precision: “finding versatility in career selection,” “assembling with multiple vivas,” and “force you to check” do not express the intended ideas naturally. Spelling and word-form slips such as “versitality” and “fuly” are noticeable, though the overall meaning remains understandable. Aim for familiar, precise collocations rather than ambitious wording where the fit is uncertain; for example, describe the degree as including practical sessions and examinations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a sentence explaining that the course combines theoretical and practical learning. The main ideas are generally understandable, but some grammatical errors recur and make parts of the letter less controlled. For example, “I have completed my degree and now finding” needs a finite verb in the second clause, while “Teachers teaches you” has a subject–verb agreement error. Other examples include “in year 2025,” “It's a five years professional degree,” and “things have got change,” which show problems with articles, number and verb forms. Review these patterns and check each sentence for a clear subject and correctly formed verb. More accurate control of these basics would make your varied sentence attempts easier to read.
