Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The letter addresses all three required points: you describe the architecture course, recommend the University of San Carlos, and advise John to consult its website. The course details—its focus on designing and planning and its approximate five-year duration—are relevant, while the recommendation is supported by references to facilities and professors. However, some points are not developed fully: the course description remains broad, and the application advice mainly directs John to the website without explaining what to prepare or do next. The recommendation would also be more persuasive with a specific example of the university’s strengths. Overall, the purpose is clear and the content is relevant, but the support is uneven.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The information is arranged in a clear sequence: you introduce the course, explain why you recommend the university, and then give application advice. Separate paragraphs help the reader follow these stages, and phrases such as “If ever you are interested” signal transitions between purposes. The letter also has an appropriate greeting and closing. To make the progression more polished, reduce repeated use of “if ever” and connect the course details more smoothly to your recommendation. The final application paragraph is brief and its advice could be organised into clearer steps. Overall, the structure is coherent and easy to follow, though some linking is repetitive and the ending could be more fully developed.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “designing and planning,” “professors,” and “procedures,” and the reader can understand your main points. There are also attempts at more specific expressions, such as “competitiveness” and “professional.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward: “a wide range of diverse learning,” “high profile professors,” and “out-put-baised development” do not sound natural in this context. Spelling errors such as “equiped,” “initiall,” and “truely” also reduce accuracy. Aim for precise, natural combinations and check spelling carefully; this will make your vocabulary more effective and professional.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The letter includes both simple statements and longer sentences, for example the sentence describing the university’s facilities and professors. Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. Capitalisation is inconsistent in “i would like” and “i strongly recommend,” and the course description “This course is a five year program approximately 10 semesters” needs a clearer grammatical link, such as “It is a five-year programme consisting of approximately ten semesters.” There are also issues with articles and prepositions in “in regards to” and “interested with this course.” Use a wider range of accurately controlled sentence patterns and proofread for sentence boundaries, articles, and prepositions.
