Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Friend,
I hope you are having a fantastic time. i am writing this letter to encourage you about applying in Soical Service Course at University Of Toronto.
Here are some useful details about this course, its a 8 semester course, divided into 3 years with 2 summer drops included. First two semesters are just pure course work and from third semester you have to work in field for 16 hours a week along with course work.
I want you to apply this course at University Of Toronto, because it is a reputable name and they have highly qualifed instructors. Apart from studies they also have huge campus with so many facilities, such as Gym, seperate ground for sports like, Football, basketball and many more.
For more information on how to apply this course is on their wesbite, www.uoft.com. Go to this website and select apply, the user interface is very friendly, you may not face issues and if you do then contact to their team, the details to contact them are listed below in website.
Hope you have a great time at university

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The letter addresses all three requested points: you describe the course structure and fieldwork, explain your recommendation by mentioning the university’s reputation, instructors and facilities, and give a route for applying. The friendly purpose is clear throughout. The course details are the strongest part, especially the progression from coursework to weekly fieldwork. However, the recommendation relies on broad claims such as “reputable name” and “huge campus,” and the application advice is mostly limited to visiting the website and contacting the team. A specific reason the teaching or course suits your friend, plus clearer application steps or requirements, would develop these ideas more fully and make the advice more persuasive.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The information is arranged in a sensible sequence: an opening, course details, reasons to choose the university, and application advice, followed by a friendly closing. Paragraphing helps the reader identify each main point, and phrases such as “Apart from studies” signal a shift in focus. The overall progression is clear, though some connections are mechanical or awkward, as in “Here are some useful details” and “For more information on how to apply this course is on their wesbite.” The final paragraph also combines several instructions in a long sentence. Use clearer linking and reference, and separate the website steps from the advice about contacting staff, to make the letter flow more naturally.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main information, including “course work,” “field,” “instructors,” “facilities” and “apply.” However, the range is limited, and several choices or collocations are inaccurate or informal: “summer drops,” “pure course work,” “reputable name,” and “contact to their team.” Spelling errors such as “Soical,” “qualifed,” “seperate” and “wesbite” are noticeable and reduce the impression of control. Some wording is also repetitive, particularly “course” and “website.” Choose more precise expressions for the course structure and application process, and proofread spelling. This would make the message clearer and more natural while retaining its friendly tone.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The letter includes both simple sentences and attempts at longer structures, for example the sentence explaining that students work in the field alongside coursework. Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. Examples include “i am writing” (capitalisation), “its a 8 semester course” (possessive/contraction and article), and “you have to work in field” (missing article). The sentence beginning “For more information on how to apply” is also incomplete or incorrectly joined to the website instruction, while “contact to their team” uses an incorrect grammatical pattern. Use complete sentences, check articles and verb forms, and divide long instructions into shorter clauses. More accurate control of these patterns would strengthen the letter.
