Student answer (Band 6.5)

Hello Aman,

I hope you are doing well. I was really happy to hear that you are thinking of apply same courses that i took at university. I would be delighted to share my experience and give you some advice.

I studied political science at Algoma University. The course covered a wide rage of topics, including international relationships, canadian politicis, public policy and global governace. The professors were knowlgdeable and supportive, and the classes inducled discussionsa, presentations, and reseach assignments, which help to develop my analytical and communication skills.

I would definitelly recommend this university because it offers a friendly learning environment, relatively small classes , and opporunities to interact directly with professors. Moreover, the campus atmosphere is welcoming, making it earier for students to adjust to university life.

As for the application process, i suggest visitinf the university website and checking the admission requirements for your choose programme. Make sure you parpare yor academic transcripts, proof of englisg language test such as IELTS if required. You should also apply before the deline to avoid any last-minute probles.

I hope this imformation helps you make your decision. Let me know if you need any further assistance.

Best regards,

Ramanjot.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5

The letter addresses all three requirements clearly: you identify the course as political science, describe topics and teaching methods, explain why you recommend Algoma University, and offer practical application advice. Details such as “small classes” and “interact directly with professors” make your recommendation relevant, while checking admission requirements and applying before the deadline answer the final point. The advice is useful, though it could be developed further with a specific suggestion about preparing a personal statement or contacting admissions. Overall, the purpose and friendly tone are clear, and the ideas are supported with relevant details; a little more specific development would make the guidance even more persuasive and complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The information follows a clear, logical sequence: you introduce your reason for writing, describe the course, explain your recommendation, and then discuss applying. Paragraphing supports this progression, and transitions such as “Moreover” and “As for the application process” help signal shifts between points. The closing is appropriate for a friendly letter. Cohesion is generally effective, although the opening and some transitions could be integrated more smoothly, and the list of application steps reads somewhat abruptly. For stronger flow, connect the advice into a more continuous explanation and use pronouns or linking phrases carefully so each reference is unmistakable.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “international relationships,” “public policy,” “analytical and communication skills,” and “admission requirements.” These choices communicate the course and application details effectively, and phrases such as “friendly learning environment” suit the letter’s purpose. However, several spelling errors and inaccurate word choices reduce precision, including “wide rage,” “global governace,” “knowlgdeable,” and “imformation.” Some expressions are also less natural, such as “thinking of apply same courses.” Proofreading and learning common academic collocations would improve control. You can also vary repeated general terms such as “university” and “course” with precise alternatives where appropriate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The letter includes a mix of simple and more developed sentence forms, such as the sentence describing the course topics and the explanation beginning “because it offers.” Most meaning remains clear, but some grammatical errors appear in verb forms, articles, and sentence construction. For example, “thinking of apply same courses” needs a gerund and an article or determiner, while “I suggest visitinf” should use a suitable verb pattern such as “I suggest visiting.” There are also inconsistent capitalisation choices for “I” and “Canadian.” To improve accuracy, check verb patterns after expressions such as “thinking of” and “suggest,” and proofread each sentence for articles and consistent punctuation.
