Student answer (Band 6.0)

Hello Ritu,

I hope this letter finds you in radiant health and best of spirits. I recieved your letter yesterday and I am happy to know that you want to do the same course which i did. I did Digital Marketing and the duration of course was one year. The fee was very nominal, I paid 5000 dollars for entire course. The entire course focuses on teaching you how to use Digital Marketing tools efficiently .The course has entirely changed my life. I am working in Logistics Management Company and I am head of my team.

I would recommend you to join the university as it is best known for Digital Marketing courses. It not only teaches the subject but every month we are given chance to work as interns in new company where we can practically apply our knowledge. It helps a great deal to revive what you have learnt. The course is for three hours in the morning, so you can do part time jobs and earn some money.

I would advice you to find details of course online. You can apply online and offline aswell. Waiting eagerly to meet in person.

Yours's Lovingly

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three points: you describe the Digital Marketing course, explain the university’s practical internship opportunities and morning schedule, and give application advice. The details about the one-year duration and course fee make the letter relevant and personal. Your recommendation is clear, and the internship example supports it. However, some points are less fully developed: “find details of course online” and applying “online and offline” do not explain what documents or steps your friend should prepare. The course description could also give a more specific example of the tools or skills taught. The response is therefore complete and purposeful, but further development and more precise advice would make it stronger.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall progression: you begin by responding to your friend, then describe the course and university, and finish with application advice and a friendly closing. Paragraphing helps distinguish the main topics, and links such as “It not only… but…” and “so” connect related ideas. Some transitions are a little abrupt, particularly the move from your job after the course to the university recommendation, and the final application paragraph is brief compared with the earlier sections. The reference in “It helps a great deal to revive what you have learnt” is also not fully clear. A more explicit link between the course’s practical work and your recommendation, plus a fuller closing paragraph, would improve the flow.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range for a friendly letter, including relevant terms such as “Digital Marketing tools,” “interns,” “practically apply,” and “part time jobs.” These help communicate the course and its benefits. There are also attempts at more expressive or formal wording, such as “radiant health” and “nominal,” though these sound less natural in this context. Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, including “do the same course,” “revive what you have learnt,” and “apply online and offline aswell.” The spelling “recieved” and the form “advice” where the verb is intended also need attention. More natural phrasing and accurate spelling would make the vocabulary more flexible and precise.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including the contrast in “It not only teaches the subject but…” and the reason/result structure “so you can do part time jobs.” Most of the message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors occur. For example, “I would advice you” uses the wrong form after “would,” and “the same course which i did” has an unclear relative construction and an uncapitalised pronoun. There are also punctuation and spacing issues, such as the space before the full stop in “efficiently .” and the run-on feel of the final advice and closing. Check verb forms after modal verbs, capitalisation, and sentence boundaries to improve accuracy.
