Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sana,
It's been ages since we write to each other. I am glad that you finally made a decision to continue your studies after having a gap of one year. As you requested, I am sharing my course details with you. I completed a course of Digital Marketing from KCL-IMT college of Management and Technologies, Jalandhar. The overall duration of the course is one year and you'll get practical experience of using the different tools of marketing the products. The reason I highly recommend you to join the same is that you'll get an option to apply for the scholarship after first semester if you score above 70%. It is much easier to apply for the course, you just need to go the offical website of the college and search the option Register now. Make sure you have digitally scanned copies of documents listed in instructions before initiating the process.
Feel free to contact me anytime if you need further clarity. I will be glad to help you.
Yours loving,
Emma

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three points and maintain an appropriate friendly purpose: you describe a one-year Digital Marketing course, recommend the college because of its scholarship opportunity, and explain how to begin applying. These details make the letter relevant and useful. The course description is somewhat general, however; the reference to practical experience with marketing tools could be made more specific. The recommendation also rests mainly on the scholarship, while the task asks why you recommend the university, so adding another reason—such as teaching quality, facilities, or student support—would strengthen it. Your application advice is clear but brief. The response covers the task well overall, with some ideas less fully developed than others.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The information follows a sensible order: you introduce the reason for writing, give course details, explain your recommendation, and finish with application advice and an offer of help. Phrases such as “As you requested” and “Feel free to contact me” help connect the letter to its purpose and audience. However, the main information is presented in one long paragraph, which makes the shifts between course details, recommendation, and application instructions less distinct. Divide these into short paragraphs and use a few natural transitions to make the progression easier to follow. Overall, the organisation is coherent, though cohesion and paragraphing could be managed more flexibly.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for an informal advice letter, including relevant terms such as “practical experience,” “scholarship,” “semester,” and “digitally scanned copies.” The meaning is generally clear, and the tone is mostly suitable for writing to a friend. Some choices are inaccurate or less natural, including “continue your studies after having a gap,” “apply for the same,” and “further clarity.” There is also a spelling error in “offical.” These do not prevent understanding, but they limit precision and naturalness. Aim for more idiomatic phrasing and check spelling; for example, say “after a year off,” “apply to the same course,” and “if you need any more information.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and more developed sentence forms, including the conditional “if you score above 70%” and the time clause “before initiating the process.” Most sentences communicate the intended meaning clearly. Some grammatical errors remain, such as “since we write to each other,” where the present perfect is needed, and “you just need to go the official website,” which is missing “to.” The phrase “The overall duration of the course is one year and you'll get…” also shifts from past course details to a general present without a clear reason. Review verb forms, prepositions, and tense consistency. Greater accuracy across these structures would make the letter more polished.
