Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Arshpreet,

I am very excited to know that you are planning to enroll in the same course MCA I completed last year .

Master of Computer Applications is a 3 year degree which open up many career paths as this course offer software development skills , testing technology and you can study multiple coding languages such as Node.js , Java, Python and so on throught the semesters.I would like to suggest you Kurukshetra University which is graded A+ by NAAC and is quit popular among our state Haryana.

Moreover, this campus provides hostel facility and a Library which is 24 hours open all year. If you want to apply by visiting the campus you can but I will recommend you to apply through its online website Kuk.ac.in which is more convenient. You need to keep your previous course documents ready with one passport size photo scanned .

I would like to tell you that I will be in town next week and I can help you with this better in person and also have some coffee together on 25 October in The Chai Bar.

Best wishes,

Aakash

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

You address all three requested points and maintain a friendly, appropriate tone throughout. The course is identified as an MCA degree, with details about its duration and subjects, and you recommend Kurukshetra University with reasons including its NAAC rating, reputation, hostel and library. Your application advice is also practical: you mention the online site and documents to prepare. These details make the letter relevant and purposeful. To strengthen the response further, develop the course and application advice a little more specifically—for example, explain what makes the teaching or facilities especially useful, or mention checking deadlines and admission requirements. The invitation to meet adds warmth, though it could be linked more directly to offering help with the application.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The letter has a clear progression: you respond to your friend’s plans, describe the course and university, give application advice, and close with an offer to meet. Paragraphing supports this sequence, and linking expressions such as “Moreover” and “If you want to apply” help the reader follow the information. The friendly opening and sign-off also suit the letter format. Some connections could be smoother: the recommendation of the university follows the course description quite abruptly, and the final paragraph combines your offer of help with the coffee invitation in a long sentence. Use clearer transitions and separate related points into shorter sentences to make the progression feel more controlled and less dependent on explicit linking phrases.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.5

You use a suitable range of vocabulary for an informal advice letter, including course-specific terms such as “software development,” “testing technology” and “coding languages,” as well as practical phrases like “apply through its online website.” These choices communicate the main information clearly and show some flexibility beyond basic vocabulary. However, several word choices or collocations are imprecise, including “open up many career paths,” “testing technology,” and “hostel facility.” There are also spelling and form issues such as “throught” and “quit” for “quite.” Greater accuracy with natural collocations and careful proofreading would make the vocabulary more precise and polished while preserving the approachable tone.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including a relative clause in “which is graded A+ by NAAC” and a conditional structure in “If you want to apply by visiting the campus you can.” The message remains understandable, and errors rarely prevent the reader from following your advice. Some grammatical errors persist, however: “a 3 year degree which open” needs subject–verb agreement, and “this course offer” should also agree with its subject. Articles and sentence boundaries need attention in phrases such as “a Library which is 24 hours open,” while the long sentence beginning “I would like to tell you” would be clearer if divided. Review agreement, articles and punctuation, and aim for more consistently accurate complex sentences.
