Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Honey,
I hope this letter finds you well. I recieved your mail asking about applying for the same subject that I did. It would be the great idea to join in Biodiversity. I personally enjoyed the course. The subject is all about plants, animals, micro organisms and their habitat. It was recommended to me by my father.
To begin with, the university is amazing. Firstly, their teaching methods are unique and simple. This is one of the university in the city which has Artificial Intelligence Robots as teachers. The labs in the institution are not only advanced but also well-maintained. Plus, the science block is surrounded by plants and trees which give fresh atmosphere. In addition to that, this university is one of the top ten universities of our country.
Furthermore, there is an online website in which, anyone can apply to the course they are interested in. The link of course selection is right below the admission one. About the college fee, you can pay it online to the given code after you are done with the registration form.
Let me know in case you need additional information.
Take care,
Hafsa.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three requested points: you describe Biodiversity and its subject matter, explain why you recommend the university, and outline an online application process. The friendly opening and closing also suit a letter to a friend. The recommendation is supported with relevant details, including the teaching approach, laboratories, green surroundings, and the university’s ranking. However, some information is less fully developed: the course description is brief, and the application advice is vague about what documents or steps are needed beyond selecting a course and completing registration. The claim about robots as teachers is striking but would be more useful if clarified. More specific, practical advice would make the response more complete and persuasive.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter is clearly organised into an introduction, a paragraph recommending the university, a paragraph about applying, and a suitable closing. Ideas progress logically, and signposts such as “To begin with,” “Firstly,” and “Furthermore” help the reader follow the points. The paragraphs each have a clear focus, and the overall tone remains consistent. Some linking is a little mechanical, particularly the repeated sequencing expressions and “In addition to that.” There is also a slightly abrupt move from describing the course to recommending the university. A smoother transition explaining how the course experience connects to the university’s strengths would improve flow, while varying the linking language would make cohesion feel more natural.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “Biodiversity,” “habitat,” “teaching methods,” “labs,” and “registration form.” These choices make the main ideas clear, and the friendly tone is appropriate. There are also some inaccurate or unnatural expressions, such as “join in Biodiversity,” “the link of course selection,” and “fresh atmosphere.” “Recieved” is a spelling error, and “micro organisms” would normally be written as one word. These issues do not prevent understanding, but they limit precision and naturalness. Aim for more accurate collocations and a few specific course-related terms, such as fieldwork or laboratory sessions, where they reflect your actual experience.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and more developed sentence forms, including the contrast structure “not only advanced but also well-maintained” and the relative clause “which give fresh atmosphere.” Most sentences communicate their meaning clearly, and the paragraphing helps the reader understand the message. Some grammatical errors remain. For example, “It would be the great idea” needs an article adjustment, and “This is one of the university” has a number-agreement problem. In “the plants and trees which give,” the verb should agree with the plural subject, while the sentence also needs an article before “fresh atmosphere.” Review articles, singular/plural agreement, and relative-clause punctuation. Greater accuracy in these areas would strengthen control without sacrificing sentence variety.
