Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Ahmad,
I hope you are doing well and I appreciate you reaching out to me. I like that you are considering taking the course on Project Management at AX University. To be honest, it has done wonders for me I am sure its going to be very helpful for you as well.
I was introduced to this course by my manager and I admire him for that. It has helped me manage several projects, especially the one with AZ Technologies. I got to learn about time management, resources allocation, and different methodologies of project lifecycle. That directly impacted my output on this project.
I recommend you consider the same, as you have worked for five years now and its time for you to start managing projects. Professor at AX University have technical and applied experience, they will teach you the concepts needed to enable yourself and lead from front. The university is situated within the city so won't have to travel far and they offer evening classes helping you attend to your work during the day.
You can start by applying on university's website. You still have time to apply as the last date to submit is 30th of this month.
Should you have any further questions, let me know.
Yours faithfully,
Saif

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You address all three points clearly: you describe the Project Management course and its content, explain why AX University suits your friend, and give an application deadline and website. The examples of learning about project lifecycles and applying this knowledge to a project make the course details relevant, while the evening classes and city location support your recommendation. Your advice to apply is useful, though it could be more fully developed with practical steps such as checking entry requirements or preparing documents. The recommendation is clear throughout, and the friendly purpose is maintained. To strengthen the response further, add a little more specific guidance about the application process and explain in greater detail how the course could benefit Ahmad’s career.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter has a clear progression: you open by acknowledging Ahmad’s interest, describe your experience, explain the university’s advantages, and finish with application advice and an invitation to ask questions. Paragraphing helps distinguish these stages, and linking phrases such as “especially” and “as” make relationships between ideas clear. The sequence is easy to follow overall. Some connections could be smoother, however: “To be honest, it has done wonders for me I am sure…” joins two complete thoughts without suitable punctuation or a linking word. The application paragraph is also brief compared with the earlier sections. Use a full stop or a connector at that point, and develop the final advice with one or two steps so the letter’s progression feels more balanced.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for a personal letter about study and work, including “methodologies,” “resources allocation,” “applied experience,” and “evening classes.” These choices communicate the subject matter and show some willingness to use more specific language. There are also a few imprecise or unnatural expressions that limit flexibility and collocational control: “lead from front” would normally be “lead from the front,” and “the last date to submit” is less natural than “the application deadline.” “It has done wonders for me” is understandable but rather general; a more precise description of the course’s benefits would be stronger. Aim to choose natural collocations and vary general praise with specific outcomes, such as improved project planning or leadership skills.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and more developed sentence forms, including the conditional “Should you have any further questions” and the explanation of how the course affected your project. Most meaning remains clear, but some grammatical and punctuation errors are present. In “it has done wonders for me I am sure its going to be very helpful,” two independent clauses need separation, and “its” should be “it’s.” There are also agreement and article issues in “Professor at AX University have” (plural “Professors” or singular “A professor”) and “on university’s website” (“the university’s website”). The phrase “so won’t have to travel far” also needs an explicit subject. Check sentence boundaries, articles, and subject–verb agreement to improve accuracy while retaining your varied structures.
