Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Guru,

I am writing to advice you a course that I have completed last year is  master in Computer Science at Charusat university.  Moreover, this is totally computer practical based course and less theory side. Furthermore, in recent years, this course in demand not only for our country, but also worldwide, because of increasing the demand of technology.

The primary reason to get admission in the Charusat university is that it offers advanced computer system to run programs as well as more emphasis on  practical side. Apart from this, they conduct on campus interview, where many well-known companies hire many freshers from our campus.

There is simple process to apply online through their website, just few documents to upload and a registration fees to pay. Then after, once you get selected you need to provide your Bachelor degree and last year result to the admin staff.

I am very excited to see you in this course and all the best for your future. If you need any further detail, please feel free to contact me.

Yours lovingly,

Patel

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

You address all three requested points: you identify the course as a master’s in Computer Science, explain the university’s practical facilities and campus recruitment, and outline an online application process. The advice is relevant and your friendly closing suits a letter to a friend. The reasons for recommending the university are clear, especially the emphasis on practical work and company interviews, and you add useful application details about documents and fees. Some claims, such as the course being in demand worldwide, remain broad, and the application advice could be more fully developed with a specific suggestion about checking deadlines or entry requirements. Overall, the task is covered clearly, with room to extend a few points.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The letter has a clear progression: course details come first, followed by reasons to choose the university and then application advice. Paragraphing supports this sequence, and the opening and closing make the purpose and friendly relationship clear. You also use linking expressions such as “Moreover,” “Furthermore,” and “Apart from this” to connect ideas. At times, however, these transitions feel repetitive or overly formal for a personal letter, and “Then after” makes the sequence less smooth. Aim for more natural links and clearer connections between sentences—for example, explain how the practical focus prepares students for the campus interviews. The overall organisation remains easy to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the main information, with relevant terms such as “Computer Science,” “practical,” “on campus interview,” and “registration fees.” The reader can understand your recommendations and application instructions. However, several word choices and collocations are noticeably unnatural, including “advice you a course,” “less theory side,” “advanced computer system,” and “provide your Bachelor degree.” These reduce precision and make parts of the letter sound less fluent. Choose more conventional expressions for academic courses and applications, and check word forms and collocations. A broader, more natural range would help you express the same ideas with greater clarity and confidence.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more developed sentence forms, including a reason clause with “because” and a relative clause beginning “where.” The main message is generally understandable, but errors in sentence construction and grammatical forms occur throughout. For example, “I am writing to advice you a course that I have completed last year is…” combines ideas without a clear grammatical structure; “a registration fees” has an article–number mismatch; and “once you get selected” uses an awkward passive construction. There are also tense and article problems, such as “I have completed last year.” Practise building clear sentences with one main clause, then add subordinate information accurately. More consistent control is needed for the message to read smoothly.
