Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Simran,
How are you? I hope you are doing well. I was very happy that you are thinking to apply same course that I studied in university.
I studied an Associate of Arts program at the University Canada West.It is a two year program that includes various subjects such as sociology, psychology and biology. It helps me to improve my communication skills and boost my confidnce to communicate with different people.
I think this is the best university in Vancouver because the teachers are very helpful and the classes provide practical knowledge. The students are also belonging from different culture. You can get knowledge about different traditions and culture.
Regarding the application, you have to visit university websit where you can find various courses. After that, you can fill th application form and pay for it. Before it, you should prepare your documents such as academic transcripts and languge test.
I hope my advice will help you to make the right decision.Take care and best regards for you family.
Yours lovingly,
Arsh

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The letter addresses all three requested points: you describe the Associate of Arts program and its subjects, explain that helpful teachers and practical classes make you recommend the university, and outline application steps and documents. The friendly tone is appropriate for writing to Simran. The course details are relevant, but the reasons for choosing the university and the application advice are less fully developed; for example, “the classes provide practical knowledge” could be supported with a specific example, and the application guidance could clarify where or when to submit documents. This covers the task clearly, with some ideas developed more than others. To strengthen it further, add a little more specific support to the recommendation and make the application process more precise.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The information follows a clear, sensible order: you introduce the topic, describe your course, explain why you recommend the university, and then give application advice. Separate paragraphs help the reader identify each main point, and transitions such as “Regarding the application” make the shift clear. The closing also suits an informal letter. Some links between ideas are a little abrupt, particularly the move from the university’s diverse student body to the benefit of learning about traditions and culture. The final sentence combines the advice, farewell, and sign-off rather quickly. Use a few more natural linking phrases and make the relationship between supporting ideas explicit to create smoother progression.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main points, including “Associate of Arts program,” “practical knowledge,” “academic transcripts,” and “language test.” The wording is generally understandable, but the range is limited and several choices or forms are inaccurate, such as “students are also belonging from different culture” and “pay for it.” Spelling errors in “confidnce,” “websit,” “th,” and “languge” also reduce accuracy. These issues do not prevent the reader from understanding your advice, but they make the letter less natural and precise. Build a bank of common education and application collocations, and proofread spelling and word forms before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The letter includes mostly straightforward sentences and some attempts to combine ideas, for example, “It is a two year program that includes various subjects such as sociology, psychology and biology.” The meaning is generally clear, but errors in verb forms, articles, agreement, and sentence boundaries remain. Examples include “I was very happy that you are thinking to apply,” “It helps me to improve,” and “students are also belonging.” The closing also runs two sentences together: “decision.Take care.” These errors show that control of basic structures is not yet consistent, while the range of sentence patterns is fairly limited. Practise accurate present and past forms, article use, and sentence punctuation, then add more varied complex structures.
