Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Ahmad,

I hope you are fine and enjoying your life. I am writing to give my suggestion regarding the course which I did at the university.

I did bachelors in dental surgery from Khyber college of dentistry, which is a four years course along with one year of training. After doing this training, you will be able to practice all the dental procedures independently.

I would definitely recommend this university, because it is one of the top universities in Pakistan and it has also it's own hospital with lots of patients for learning practical skills. The teaching stop is also very professional and guide you at each step. Along with academics, it focuses on co-curricular activities like sports , culture etc.

You have to submit your documents to HR department after scoring minimum of 90 percent in entry test. They will call you if you were eligible and you can join the university with in one week.

I hope that you will definitely get an admission and become a professional dentist.

Yours sincerely,

Amjad

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

You address all three points clearly: you identify the dental surgery course and its duration, explain the university’s hospital and teaching strengths, and give application guidance. The recommendation is clear and supported with relevant reasons, such as access to patients for practical learning and opportunities beyond academics. The course details are useful, although the advice about applying is less fully explained: the 90-percent entry-test requirement and document submission are stated, but the reader is not told what documents to prepare or how to find out about the test. Developing that practical guidance would make the response more complete and persuasive.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The letter has a clear progression from its purpose to course details, reasons for recommending the university, application advice, and a friendly closing. Paragraphing helps the reader distinguish these points, and links such as “After doing this training” and “Along with academics” connect related information. The overall organisation is easy to follow. To make the cohesion more flexible and polished, vary some of the repeated sentence openings and make the transition into the application instructions smoother. For example, a brief link explaining that the entry test is the first step would connect the recommendation and application paragraphs more naturally.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for a personal letter about university study, including relevant terms such as “dental procedures,” “practical skills,” and “co-curricular activities.” These choices make the subject clear, and the message remains understandable. However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or informal, including “teaching stop” and “did bachelors,” while “lots of patients” is less precise than the context allows. There are also spelling and form issues, such as “it's own.” Aim for more natural academic and application-related phrasing, while keeping the friendly tone appropriate for a letter to a friend.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and more developed sentence forms, and the meaning is generally clear. For instance, the sentence explaining that the course includes training and enables independent practice conveys a sequence of ideas effectively. Some grammatical errors remain, however: “I did bachelors” needs an article and a more suitable construction, “it has also it's own hospital” has an incorrect possessive form, and “The teaching stop … guide” has a subject–verb agreement problem. The conditional wording “if you were eligible” is also inconsistent with the future context. Review articles, agreement, possessives, and tense consistency, then proofread punctuation and spacing.
