Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Lovepreet,

I hope you're doing well. I am glad that you asked for my suggestion about the same program I did. The program was Early Childhood Education. It was 3 years of course and has 400 training hours. Also, the demand of this educational field is extremely high in job applications as approximately hundreds of open positions are available on indeed application. The reason is unawareness of this stream.

The university I chose for my studies was one of the best in the province. The University of Waterloo has all kinds of facilities, faculties, and resources for all forms of STEAM. Therefore, both national and international students apply for their courses every year. This is the main reason why getting a job offer letter is challenging.

I would suggest you start applying a year before, then it will save time, and in meanwhile you can work on your computer skills or gathering knowledge about this field through volunteer jobs to have more experience because you will have to do your most of the work on computer or laptop, like assignments, projects, or making portfolios.

I will be excited to hear back if you would like my advice and the information.

Best regards,

Anu

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three points in the task: you identify the Early Childhood Education course, explain why you chose Waterloo, and offer application advice. The course duration and training hours add useful detail, while the recommendation is supported by the university’s facilities and reputation. Your practical suggestions about applying early and gaining experience are relevant. However, some ideas are not fully clear or developed: the link between limited awareness of the field and the number of job openings is difficult to follow, and the comment that getting a job offer is challenging does not clearly support your recommendation. To strengthen the letter, explain more directly what makes the university a good choice and give a specific application step, such as checking entry requirements or preparing documents early. The friendly purpose is clear throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall structure, with separate paragraphs for the course, the university, and your advice. The sequence is easy to follow, and linking expressions such as “Also,” “Therefore,” and “I would suggest” help connect points. The opening and closing also suit a personal letter. Some connections, however, feel mechanical or unclear. For example, “Therefore” does not clearly show how the university’s facilities lead to students applying, and “This is the main reason” has an uncertain reference. The long advice sentence combines several recommendations and would be easier to follow if divided into shorter sentences. Use clearer links between each reason and its consequence, and make sure pronouns such as “this” refer unmistakably to a specific idea.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “training hours,” “facilities,” “resources,” “volunteer,” and “portfolios.” These choices communicate the main information, and you attempt some more specific language related to education and employment. There are, however, several imprecise or unnatural expressions, such as “demand … is extremely high in job applications,” “hundreds of open positions,” and “all forms of STEAM.” “Job offer letter” also does not clearly express the employment point you appear to intend. These word-choice and collocation issues make some details less precise, although the overall message remains understandable. Aim for natural combinations such as “strong demand for qualified educators” and choose wording that accurately describes the course and its career prospects.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including the conditional advice “if you would like my advice” and the longer sentence beginning “I would suggest you start applying a year before.” Most of the message is understandable, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “It was 3 years of course” needs a more accurate structure, such as “It was a three-year course,” and “you will have to do your most of the work” has an incorrect word order. In “then it will save time, and in meanwhile,” the clause connection and article use need attention. Break up the longest sentence and check articles, word order, and clause boundaries; this will make your varied sentence structures more controlled.
