Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Raman,

Hope you are doing well. I got your letter where you asked for my suggestion about your course and university. As you know that I completed my Early childhood assistant diploma from Algoma university last year. It is a really great choice because for each subject they have high qualified tutors. My course was all about practicals and presentations which helped me a lot to understand everything deeply. There were placements also which will help me in future.

Moreover, this university is in our area so you do not need to worry about transportation. Apart from this they will help you to find a entry level job. However, there schedules are very flexible like either you can choose weekdays or weekends classes. Also, there is a recreational centre and a library. So you can do other activities also.

There is a very simple process of application just apply online for offer letter which you might receive in two weeks. Then, send your all documents at the email which you will get with offer letter.

Good luck,

Yours lovingly

Gagan

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

You address all three requested points and maintain a friendly, appropriate tone. You identify the course and university, explain benefits such as practical work, placements, flexible schedules and nearby location, and give a basic application sequence. These details make your recommendation clear and relevant. The course description is supported with examples, although the claim that the university has “high qualified tutors” and will help find a job is quite general; a specific example would make the advice more convincing. The application guidance is useful but could be clearer about what documents to prepare or where to find the online application. Overall, the task is covered and the main ideas are extended, with some tendency to generalise.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter follows a sensible progression: you refer to your friend’s question, describe your course, explain the university’s advantages, and finish with application advice and a friendly sign-off. Paragraphing helps separate the main topics, and linking expressions such as “Moreover,” “Apart from this,” and “However” show an effort to connect ideas. This gives the response a coherent overall arrangement. However, several transitions feel mechanical or do not express a clear contrast: “However” introduces flexible schedules, which is not opposing the previous point. The second paragraph also strings together several benefits with “also” and “So.” Use fewer, more precise connectors and make the relationship between ideas explicit to strengthen the progression.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main information about the course and university, including “practicals,” “presentations,” “placements,” and “entry level job.” The friendly register is suitable for a letter to a friend. However, the range is limited and some noticeable word-choice and collocation problems make parts sound unnatural, such as “high qualified tutors,” “a entry level job,” and “send your all documents.” “Suggestion about your course” is also less precise than advice about applying to or choosing the course. Aim to use more natural combinations and vary repeated general words such as “great,” “help,” and “also.” These improvements would make your meaning smoother and more precise.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You communicate the message using mostly straightforward sentence patterns, with some attempts to combine ideas through clauses such as “which helped me a lot to understand everything deeply.” However, the range of structures is limited, and errors recur in articles, agreement, and sentence construction. For example, “As you know that I completed” has an unnecessary “that,” while “there schedules” should use a possessive form and “you can choose weekdays or weekends classes” needs a clearer grammatical structure. The opening “Hope you are doing well” is acceptable in an informal letter, but several longer sentences would benefit from more careful punctuation and clause control. Practise accurate complex sentences alongside simple ones.
