IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future, more people will choose to go on holiday in their own country and not travel abroad on holiday. Do you agree or disagree?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
As tourism industry is flourishing, awareness through social media, people are now more interested in exploring their own country's part that they never knew existed instead of travelling to other countries. I could not agree more to this notion.
People prefer travelling to other countries to understand, enjoy and explore other cultures and ethnicities while they know very little about their own home country. For instance, Pakistan has a diverse geographic map. It has enchanting beaches, mesmerising mountains and a couple of beautiful valleys and lakes that are yet to be explored. Pakistan it self has diverse culture with people speaking multiple different languages. Social media has given exposure to people living in Pakistan showed them that instead of spending dollars to explore Switzerland's mountains and valleys they can travel to Pakistan's northern side , in a lesser expense, which are equally majestic. People inhabiting Pakistan also have come to the realisation that spending money in their own country will benefit it drastically. Tourism can bring revenue into the country and eventually take it out of the economical crisis its been in since the past few decades.
On the other hand some people argue, travelling abroad to other countries is a better option for them. They get to try different cushions, interact with other people understand their culture and learn about the world. They also believe that they can attract more tourists to their own country because they are representing Pakistan, thus tourists might be directed to our country in the coming years.
I wholeheartedly agree with the former argument, people are now more keen to explore their own country's culture and architecture instead of flying abroad to experience something different especially since the advancement of social media.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear: you strongly agree that more people will holiday domestically, and the Pakistan example makes the response relevant and specific. You explain several reasons, including social media exposure, lower costs, and the potential economic benefit of domestic tourism. This covers the task well, but the support is uneven. The paragraph about people who prefer overseas travel gives reasons for that choice, then shifts to the claim that they may attract tourists to Pakistan; the link to the future trend in the question is not fully explained. To strengthen the response, develop how these competing factors affect your prediction and support the conclusion with a more explicit comparison. The clear stance and relevant examples are strong, while fuller development of all points is still needed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph supporting domestic tourism, a contrasting paragraph, and a conclusion that restates your view. Ideas within the main supporting paragraph generally progress from Pakistan’s attractions to social media and economic benefits. However, some connections are unclear or mechanical. For example, “On the other hand” introduces overseas travel, but the paragraph’s final claim about attracting tourists to Pakistan does not clearly connect to the preceding reasons. The conclusion also repeats the introduction rather than drawing together the main points. Use clearer links between each reason and your prediction, and make pronoun references explicit where needed. These changes would make the progression easier to follow and cohesion less dependent on basic transitions.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “diverse geographic map,” “enchanting beaches,” “exposure,” and “revenue,” and these choices help convey your ideas about tourism. There are also attempts at more descriptive language, though some expressions are inaccurate or unnatural: “a couple of beautiful valleys” is imprecise, “lesser expense” is not the natural collocation, and “different cushions” appears to mean “cuisines.” “Economical crisis” is also less appropriate than the standard term “economic crisis.” These slips do not prevent the reader from understanding your main points, but they limit precision and naturalness. Aim for accurate collocations and check spelling carefully, especially when using less familiar vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a contrast introduced by “while” and a longer sentence explaining how social media may influence travel choices. The main ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors and punctuation problems reduce accuracy. For example, “As tourism industry is flourishing” needs an article, and “Pakistan it self has” has incorrect spacing and sentence construction. In “Social media has given exposure to people living in Pakistan showed them,” the clauses are not joined grammatically; use a relative clause or separate sentence. The sentence beginning “I wholeheartedly agree with the former argument, people are now…” also joins two independent clauses with a comma. Practise article use, clause linking, and sentence boundaries while retaining your attempts at complex structures.
