Student answer (Band 7.0)

It is believed that in the upcoming years, an increasing number of individuals will choose local vacation instead of travelling to another countries. However, I firmly disagree with this statement because all world is becoming a global village due to technological advancements. Therefore, I believe number of people travelling to another nations will increase in future.

To begin with, going on foreign vacation for people is already as quick and convenient as to plan a vacation in their own country. This is because of the advancements in technology and social media platforms because it has made booking tickets, accommodation and all other things so quick and affordable. As a result, everyone can easily plan international vacation online even if they have never been to a foreign country before. For instance, it was not possible in the past to book everything in advance. My parents told me that they once went to Dubai and they did not find any room to stay. And they ended up sleeping in their car.

Moreover, all world has become a global village where everyone knows about tourist attraction of another countries. Therefore, people are more keen to travel to foreign nations to explore the culture and attractive tourist attractions. This is all possible because of the increased awareness that internet has spread. In addition, many people make friends online and they are interested to travel to foreign countries to meet them. For example, I made a friend on Facebook in 2010 who lives in England.. We are in-touch online for years and finally I met her in UK last year when she invited me at her baby shower.

In conclusion, although some people prefer to travel only in their own country, the number of people choosing abroad vacation is increasing day by day due to the affordability, convenience and widespread awareness.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, clearly stating a position against the idea that domestic tourism will replace international travel. The ideas are relevant and supported by personal examples, such as the anecdote about the Dubai trip and the Facebook friend in England. While the arguments are logical, they could be further developed by exploring the economic or environmental factors that might actually drive domestic tourism, which would provide a more balanced and nuanced discussion. However, the position is consistent throughout, and the main points are sufficiently extended to meet the requirements of the task.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Moreover', and 'In conclusion' are used to guide the reader through the argument. However, there is some minor mechanical use of these devices, and some referencing is slightly repetitive. The progression of ideas is clear, and the relationship between the topic sentence and the supporting examples is generally well-managed, ensuring the reader can follow the writer's line of reasoning without difficulty.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their opinions clearly. There is an attempt to use some less common collocations like 'technological advancements' and 'tourist attraction'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and article usage, such as 'all world' instead of 'the whole world' and 'abroad vacation' instead of 'vacations abroad'. While these errors do not impede communication, they prevent the response from reaching a higher band. The range is sufficient to convey the intended meaning, but lacks the precision and sophistication required for higher scores.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, particularly regarding articles ('the internet', 'the UK') and pluralization ('another countries' should be 'other countries'). Some sentences are slightly awkward, such as 'all world is becoming a global village'. Despite these errors, the meaning is always clear, and the writer demonstrates an ability to construct complex sentences, even if they are not always perfectly accurate. The errors are frequent enough to be noticeable but do not cause difficulty for the reader.
