Student answer (Band 6.5)

It has been suggested that in the future, less people will be travelling abroad for holidays and more will choose to enjoy their vacations in their home country. I strongly turn down this idea. This essay will share the reasons for the answer and relevant examples also.

The world has become much more connected through Airways and sea travelling. Undoubtedly, with the advancements in the technology it is much more cheaper, convenient and safe as it used to be in the past. Therefore, individuals are eager to visit their dream destinations, Also, there are various travel agencies who provides well organized tours to different countries. Moreover, There is always a desire to experience new places, cultures and food. This longing will always continue to make people travel around the world. For instance, there are millions of individuals who travel to countries such as Dubai, India, Japan, China and so on.

On the contrary, Travelling in their own country keeps them close to home so they feel more safe and return at their earliest convenience. This also helps them to save finances rather than spending thousands on travelling. Furthermore, there are severe circumstances sometimes which can cause extended stay to the travelers. For example, the recent war between ISRAEL and IRAN. It impacted various travelers who were present in these countries as due to the war, all the flights were cancelled.

Where there are perks and excitement of visiting new countries, there are some drawbacks also. One should stay informed about the country they are visiting and plan ahead to overcome any unplanned circumstances.

In the conclusion, People always love to travel abroad to see the wider picture of the world and this is not going to decrease or end. It makes them feel alive by cutting them off from their day to day lives and makes their vacations much more enjoyable and memorable.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position against the idea that domestic tourism will replace international travel. The main arguments regarding global connectivity and the desire for new experiences are relevant. However, the development is somewhat uneven. While the first body paragraph provides clear reasons, the second paragraph is slightly contradictory; it discusses the benefits of domestic travel, which weakens the overall argument against the prompt's premise. To reach a higher band, the student should ensure that all points directly support the stated position and provide more detailed, cohesive examples rather than just listing countries or mentioning generic 'severe circumstances'.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central topic. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Undoubtedly', 'Therefore', 'Moreover', and 'On the contrary', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the logical flow between the counter-argument in the second paragraph and the conclusion could be smoother. The referencing is generally clear, but the paragraph structure could benefit from more sophisticated linking to ensure the progression of ideas is seamless rather than just a list of points.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the student to convey their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'advancements' and 'unplanned circumstances'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'turn down this idea' (instead of 'reject this notion') and 'much more cheaper' (which is grammatically incorrect and lexically redundant). The range is sufficient to communicate, but lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'less people' (should be 'fewer people'), 'who provides' (subject-verb agreement error), and 'as it used to be' (missing 'than'). Additionally, there are punctuation issues, such as the unnecessary capitalization of 'ISRAEL' and 'IRAN'. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. The student should focus on subject-verb agreement and comparative structures to improve accuracy.
