Student answer (Band 8.0)

Travelling is one of the most popular leisure activities around the world. While some people believe that domestic tourism will become more common in the future than international travel, I partly agree with this view because local holidays offer several advantages. However, travelling abroad will continue to attract many people.

One of the main reasons why more people may choose to travel within their own country is the lower cost. Domestic trips usually involve cheaper transportation and accommodation, allowing families to enjoy a holiday without spending a large amount of money. In addition, travelling locally saves time because there is no need to apply for visas or spend many hours on international flights. For example, many Australians prefer visiting destinations such as the Gold Coast or Tasmania, where they can experience beautiful beaches and natural scenery at a reasonable cost.

On the other hand, international travel is unlikely to lose its popularity completely. Many people enjoy exploring different cultures, tasting foreign cuisines, and visiting famous landmarks that cannot be found in their home country. Furthermore, as air travel becomes more accessible and competitive, international holidays may remain affordable for a large number of tourists. Visiting countries such as Japan, Italy, or Canada offers unique experiences that domestic travel simply cannot provide.

In conclusion, I believe that domestic tourism will become increasingly popular because it is more affordable, convenient, and environmentally friendly. Nevertheless, international travel will continue to play an important role for people who wish to experience different cultures and broaden their horizons.
