IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future, more people will choose to go on holiday in their own country and not travel abroad on holiday. Do you agree or disagree?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 7.0)
It is often argued that people will start choosing destinations for their holidays in their home countries rather than travelling internationally. However, I disagree with this phenomenon because aviation sector has seen increment in the flights to nations which are famous for family vacations.
To begin with, the first and foremost reason of abroad holidays is social media influence. This is because many individuals who are famous on platforms like TikTok and Instagram gets fully paid trips and collaborations from brands to travel and promote their products. Additionally, the younger public gets encouragement from these influencers and they plan their leisure time in advance to travel to different places outside of their own country. For example, according to a survey in US approximately 75 percent of youth spend their time off from college in Europe and they post their trips on social media handles.
Another reason why people avoid to spend their holidays in home country is that they are already familiar with the history and tradition of the places. In other words, people have read about all the famous places in their country in textbooks during their schooling days due to which they does not feel excited to visit these places in person. For example, in India every other citizen is familiar with one of the Worlds famous wonder Taj Mahal but only 50 percent of natives have ever visited there and still in 2019 it was the most visited place according to internet and this is all because of tourists from other nations.
In conclusion, I can firmly state that, this trend of international trips will continue to increase in future as social media platforms and young individuals find this more beneficial than staying in same place they born during holidays.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. The arguments regarding social media influence and familiarity with local history are relevant and logically developed. However, the introduction is slightly weak; the mention of the 'aviation sector' is a bit tangential to the core argument about why people prefer international travel. To reach a higher band, ensure that every sentence directly supports your stance. The ideas are generally well-supported with examples, though the example regarding Taj Mahal visitor statistics could be more clearly linked to the argument about why people avoid domestic tourism.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, each with a clear central topic. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Additionally', and 'In other words' are used effectively to guide the reader. However, the transition between the introduction and the first body paragraph is slightly abrupt. Furthermore, some referencing is a bit mechanical, and the flow could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words to connect sentences within paragraphs more fluidly. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear and easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'phenomenon', 'collaborations', and 'leisure time'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'aviation sector has seen increment' (should be 'an increase') and 'younger public' (which sounds slightly unnatural). While you attempt to use less common vocabulary, some collocations are slightly off. To improve, focus on using more precise academic collocations and ensure that your word choices are contextually appropriate for a formal essay.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are several recurring grammatical errors that affect the accuracy of the writing. For instance, subject-verb agreement issues are present, such as 'individuals... gets' (should be 'get') and 'it... does not feel' (should be 'do not feel'). Additionally, there are minor errors with articles and prepositions, such as 'in US' (should be 'in the US') and 'staying in same place they born' (should be 'the same place where they were born'). These errors do not impede communication but occur frequently enough to limit the score.
