Student answer (Band 7.0)

In the coming years, most people believe that spending their holidays in their own country s better than travelling abroad. I firmly agree with this view because because it is more affordable for people with limited financial resources.

This essay will discuss the reasons behind my opinion and explain why I believe travelling within one's own country is a better choice.

Personally, I support the assertion that going on vacations within one's own country is more beneficial than travelling abroad. Domestic travel does not involve expensive airfare, visa fees, or foreign currency exchange, making it a suitable option for people with limited financial resources. As a result, families can enjoy their holidays without experiencing financial stress. Moreover, they can visit historical sites, natural landscapes, and cultural attractions while supporting the local tourism industry. Therefore, spending holidays in one's own country is both economical and beneficial.

On the other hand, some people prefer travelling abroad because it gives them the opportunity to experience different cultures, traditions, and lifestyles. Visiting foreign countries can broaden their perspectives, improve their communication skills, and create unforgettable memories. However, international travel is often expensive, as it involves the cost of air tickets, accommodation, visas, and other travel expenses. Consequently, many people, particularly those with limited financial resources, cannot afford frequent overseas holidays. Therefore, although travelling abroad has its own advantages, I believe that spending holidays within one's own country is a more practical and economical choice for the majority of people.

In conclusion, although travelling abroad provides valuable cultural experiences, I believe that spending holidays within one's own country is a better option. It is more affordable, convenient, and allows people to explore the beauty and heritage of their own nation. Therefore, domestic travel is the most practical choice, especially for those with limited financial resources.

Overall7.0

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response addresses all parts of the task and maintains a clear, consistent position throughout. The arguments regarding affordability and the benefits of domestic tourism are well-developed and supported with relevant examples. The essay acknowledges the counter-argument regarding international travel, which adds depth to the discussion. The ideas are logically extended, and the conclusion effectively synthesises the main points. The response is well-structured and directly answers the prompt, demonstrating a clear understanding of the requirements for a balanced yet opinionated essay.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5

The essay is logically organised with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph has a central topic, and the transition between the supporting arguments and the counter-argument is smooth. Cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Consequently', and 'In conclusion' are used effectively to guide the reader. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. The flow of information is natural, and the relationship between ideas is consistently clear throughout the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is sufficient and appropriate for the task. The student uses a range of topic-specific terms such as 'financial resources', 'historical sites', 'cultural attractions', and 'local tourism industry'. While the vocabulary is functional and accurate, it lacks the more sophisticated or idiomatic expressions that would elevate the response to a higher band. However, there are no significant errors in word choice or collocation, and the language used is precise enough to convey the intended meaning clearly and effectively.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0

The essay demonstrates a good control of grammatical structures. There is a mix of simple and complex sentences, such as the use of conditional-like structures and relative clauses. While there is a minor repetition error in the first paragraph ('because because'), the majority of the sentences are error-free. Punctuation is generally accurate, and the grammatical control is consistent throughout the response. The complexity of the sentence structures is sufficient to support the clear communication of ideas without impeding the reader's understanding.
