Student answer (Band 6.0)

In this present era, mostly people live abroad for their better future. They are so busy in their hectic schedule and want to go for a peaceful destination to relax. I totally agree that in the coming years people will choose to go on vacation to their home countries rather than any foreigner countries. I will explain it in the upcoming paragraphs.

First of all, no one wants to leave their own countries however, they feel that there is no good future if they stay in their country. There could be many reasons behind this like, less employment opportunities, poverty and corrupted government policies. If they are settled abroad and get a chance to choose a holiday destination they will choose their own country.

I would like to give an example, I came to Canada because I was not able to find any job in India because of over-population. I choose to come and work in this country for a better future. Now, whenever I get to go on holidays I always choose India rather than any other country.

In addition, mostly people choose to go back home for their holidays because they have their own family and friends over there. They rather spend their quality time with them and get relaxed. For example, if you go to some random country of course, you will get to explore new culture and food however, you want to be able to enjoy it as compared to your own country. When you go back home you will enjoy every second with your loved ones.

in conclusion, I would always choose my country to go on holiday rather than wasting my money and time in a random country with strangers.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position and providing reasons for the argument. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you provide a personal example regarding your move to Canada, the argument relies heavily on personal experience rather than broader societal trends. To reach a higher band, you should expand on the 'why' behind the trend—for instance, discussing the rising costs of international travel or the growing trend of 'staycations' due to environmental concerns. The conclusion is a bit repetitive and does not fully synthesize the points made in the body paragraphs.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices such as 'First of all,' 'In addition,' and 'In conclusion' to signal the structure. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly unnatural, such as 'I will explain it in the upcoming paragraphs,' which is unnecessary. Referencing is generally clear, but the flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that the transition between the personal example and the general argument is smoother.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You rely on common phrases like 'hectic schedule,' 'better future,' and 'quality time.' There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'foreigner countries' (should be 'foreign countries') and 'random country.' To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary related to travel and socio-economic trends, and pay closer attention to word forms and collocations to ensure your writing sounds more natural and academic.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'mostly people' (should be 'most people'), 'I choose to come' (should be 'I chose'), and 'you want to be able to enjoy it' (should be 'you won't be able to'). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but there are minor errors in sentence construction. To achieve a higher score, focus on improving your control over verb tenses and ensuring that your complex sentences are error-free.
