Student answer (Band 5.5)

People are going to chose for a vacation in their in their home country rather than having a trip to foreign countries for a holiday and I completely agree with their decision. In this essay, I'm going to include my reasons and thoughts on this.

Many people are already opting to spend their vacation by travelling in their own country and in the future, we may see the decline in international holiday travels. One important reason for this shift in people's mind is the spike in expenses. Many airlines have vastly increased their ticket fares and luggage costs, especially on international travel. Which has made flying to abroad very expensive and drains people's pockets rapidly. On top of that, planning an international trip needs a lot of time and effort. So, they need to plan their schedules way ahead of their actual holiday, which many people won't prefer.

In contrast, travelling within their country for holiday saves people from a lot of hassle, avoid unnecessary expenses and less planning . This also improves the time spent with their family.

In conclusion, I believe that people are going to prefer travelling within their country.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 193 words. This significantly impacts the development of ideas. While you clearly state your position in the introduction, the supporting arguments are underdeveloped. For instance, the point about 'expenses' is mentioned, but it lacks specific examples or a deeper exploration of how this impacts the broader trend. To reach a higher band, you must expand your arguments with more detailed explanations and concrete examples to fully address all parts of the prompt. The conclusion is also quite brief and does not effectively summarize the main points discussed.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay has a basic structure with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, the progression of ideas is limited due to the brevity of the text. You use some cohesive devices like 'In contrast' and 'On top of that', but the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical. Paragraphing is present, but the body paragraphs are quite short, which hinders the logical development of your argument. To improve, ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence followed by supporting details that are linked smoothly using a wider variety of cohesive devices.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You rely on common phrases such as 'drains people's pockets' and 'lot of hassle'. While these are understandable, they are somewhat informal. There are also minor issues with word choice, such as 'flying to abroad' (should be 'flying abroad'). To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary related to travel and economics, such as 'financial burden', 'logistical challenges', or 'domestic tourism'. Expanding your range of collocations will help you achieve a higher score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. However, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. For example, 'People are going to chose for a vacation' contains an incorrect verb form ('choose') and preposition usage. Additionally, 'Which has made flying to abroad very expensive' is a sentence fragment. There are also issues with parallel structure, such as 'saves people from a lot of hassle, avoid unnecessary expenses and less planning'. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and ensuring that all sentences are complete will significantly improve your accuracy.
