IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future, more people will choose to go on holiday in their own country and not travel abroad on holiday. Do you agree or disagree?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
In upcoming years, it has been observed that most of the individuals will like to go on vacation in their own nation rather than travelling in a different country. I strongly agree to the laid statement. My preference is justified in ensuing write-up.
Out of all the arguments, one of the strongest one to prove my view is it is cheaper to travel in their own country. By this I mean, not everyone can afford to travel overseas and also in different countries they charge them double as they know visitors are unaware about the actual prices. To add to this, as we know there are several terrorist attacks happening all over the world and it makes everyone feel unsafe to travel in a different nation as they do not feel secure.
Additionally, the other reason to prove my point is people have started learning a lot about their country's history. To reformulate, travelling in their own country gives them a pride and chance to enhance their knowledge more about the nation.
In contrast, some individuals are opposed to this view and counter claim that every part of the world has its own beauty. By travelling all across the world a person can witness a lot more about different culture, food and people. Moreover, it has been common that more people travel in different country's job opportunities. This is to say that, a person can generate more income and build a brighter future for them travelling in different nation.
To recapitulate, although there are some benefits travelling overseas, I believe things like costing, learning more about their nation's history and risk factors associated with travelling are the strong enough reason for the individuals to travel in their own country.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. The arguments regarding cost, safety, and national pride are relevant, though they could be developed with more specific examples or deeper analysis to reach a higher band. For instance, the point about 'terrorist attacks' is a strong idea but is stated quite generally. The counter-argument is acknowledged, which adds balance to the essay. Overall, the response is well-focused on the topic, and the position is consistent from the introduction to the conclusion, meeting the requirements for a Band 6.5 or 7.0 level of development.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. Cohesive devices such as 'Additionally', 'In contrast', and 'To recapitulate' are used to guide the reader through the argument. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical or repetitive, such as 'To add to this' and 'To reformulate'. The referencing is generally clear, though the flow between sentences could be smoother in the second paragraph. The structure is sufficient to ensure the progression of ideas is easy to follow, which is consistent with Band 6.0 descriptors.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'recapitulate' and 'ensuing', though these are sometimes used slightly awkwardly in context. There are also minor collocation errors, such as 'laid statement' instead of 'aforementioned statement' or 'travelling in different country's job opportunities'. While the range is sufficient to convey meaning, it lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands. The vocabulary is functional but not particularly sophisticated.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('in different country', 'in different nation') and pluralization ('one of the strongest one'). Some sentences are slightly clunky, such as 'it has been common that more people travel in different country's job opportunities'. Despite these errors, the grammar does not impede communication. The writer demonstrates enough control to handle complex ideas, but the frequency of minor errors prevents a higher score.
