Student answer (Band 7.0)

Tourism industry has been showing an incredible surge in the last couple of decades all across the globe. An increasing number of people are inclining their interest in visiting unique places rather than picking the same common and famous old destinations to re-visit. However, a lateral shift towards domestic travel has been noticed recently among tourists. The preferences are altered from foreign travels to domestic and it is going to continue in future as well, is the notion of numerous individuals. I completely agree with the perspective and I believe, it is primarily due to the cost-effectiveness of national tours as well as the language barrier in foreign travels.

One of the major reasons why visitors choose their own nations as their tourist destinations is the affordability. Inside country tours are comparably cheaper than abroad ones, owing to the currency difference. To cite an example, one Canadian dollar is equalivient to 65 Indian rupees which makes it extremely expensive for Indians to plan trips to Canada. Only flight tickets from India to Canada is anywhere between $1000 to $1500 which is nearly Rs. 60,000 to Rs. 1,00,000. Therefore, planning domestic tours is more viable and affordable option for an average person.

What’s more, language barrier is the another considerations for the agreement. A multitude of visitors face the communication issues while visiting any country abroad. To illustrate, Chinese doesn’t have a good command in any other language apart from their own language. Due to which, foreigners usually have to download language apps to interact with people which is challenging and time-consuming as well. Hence, to avoid these types of circumstances, people rather choose to explore their own nation than to visit out of country destinations.

Taking everything into account, I ultimately arrive at the conclusion that domestic travels are less complicated in terms of language comprehension as well as are economically affordable which makes them the first preference of tourists. Thus, I believe, this is a golden opportunity for nations to foster their tourism economic development by investing in domestic tourism.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, clearly stating a position in the introduction and maintaining it throughout. The ideas regarding cost-effectiveness and language barriers are relevant and well-supported with examples, such as the currency comparison between Canada and India. The development is logical, and the conclusion effectively summarizes the main points while adding a forward-looking suggestion. The response is fully developed and meets the requirements of the task effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph has a central theme, and the use of cohesive devices such as 'To cite an example', 'What’s more', and 'Taking everything into account' helps guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and there is occasional awkwardness in sentence linking, such as the phrasing 'is the another considerations'. Despite these minor issues, the paragraphing is appropriate and the overall flow is coherent.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is generally sufficient for the task. The student uses some good collocations like 'lateral shift', 'foster their tourism economic development', and 'viable and affordable option'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and form, such as 'equalivient' (spelling error), 'Inside country tours' (unnatural collocation), and 'Chinese doesn’t have a good command' (referring to a nationality rather than the language speakers). While these errors do not impede communication, they prevent the essay from reaching a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The student demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There is a good attempt at complex grammar, but there are persistent errors in subject-verb agreement and article usage, such as 'language barrier is the another considerations' and 'foreigners usually have to download language apps'. While these errors are noticeable, they do not cause significant difficulty for the reader. The punctuation is generally accurate, but the control over complex structures needs more consistency to reach the next level.
