IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future, more people will choose to go on holiday in their own country and not travel abroad on holiday. Do you agree or disagree?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The idea of spending vacations within one's home country rather than flying overseas is becoming popular. I completely agree with this trend as rising travel costs are not affordable for most of the people now.
Family holiday in abroad demands a handsome amount of budget for airfare, currency exchange taxes . As fuel prices are continuously showing an increasing trend from last few years. So, people now prefer their own home country to spend holidays because they are more cost effective. Similar country tour saves you from multiple resources like cost, time, and energy. An recent report on tourism shows that in last 10 years more countries are working on their own tourist and historical places and a 50% ratio of people now prefer to choose same country for holiday as rather than flying to overseas.
Furthermore, It helps to promote your own country to generate revenue from local tourism. You spend your money in your own country and it gives a huge benefit to government as well as to you. Northern areas in Pakistan are a great source of income that government can generate by promoting local tourism.
Growing environmental consciousness will discourage people from choosing long-distance flights. Aviation is one of the fastest-growing contributors to global greenhouse gas emissions. As regular citizens become more aware of climate change, many are actively seeking ways to reduce their personal carbon footprint. Choosing to travel by train or electric car to a domestic holiday spot is a highly effective way to minimize pollution. This shift toward eco-friendly living means that sustainable, localized tourism will become the preferred choice for future generations.
In conclusion, I strongly believe that the future belongs to domestic travel rather than international tourism. This trend will be fueled by the undeniable economic benefits of staying local and a collective global effort to protect the environment. Ultimately, citizens will realize that discovering the hidden gems of their own homeland can be just as fulfilling as exploring a foreign land.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have clearly addressed the prompt by taking a definitive stance and supporting it with relevant arguments, such as economic factors, government revenue, and environmental concerns. The ideas are well-developed, particularly the point regarding the environmental impact of aviation. To reach a higher band, ensure that all supporting details are fully integrated; for instance, the mention of a '50% ratio' in a report feels slightly unsupported as a specific statistic. Overall, you have provided a balanced and persuasive argument that directly answers the question.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph focuses on a central theme, such as cost or environmental impact. You use cohesive devices like 'Furthermore' and 'In conclusion' effectively to guide the reader. However, some transitions between sentences are slightly mechanical, such as the sentence fragment starting with 'As fuel prices...' which disrupts the flow. Improving the connection between these ideas would enhance the overall coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to discuss the topic with some precision, using terms like 'environmental consciousness,' 'greenhouse gas emissions,' and 'carbon footprint.' There are some minor collocation issues, such as 'Family holiday in abroad' (should be 'Family holidays abroad') and '50% ratio of people' (should be '50% of people'). While you attempt to use more sophisticated language, these occasional inaccuracies in word choice prevent a higher score. Focusing on natural collocations will help improve your lexical precision.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. There are some grammatical errors, such as sentence fragments ('As fuel prices are continuously showing an increasing trend from last few years. So, people now prefer...') and minor prepositional errors ('in last 10 years'). While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede the reader's understanding of your argument. To improve, focus on ensuring that every sentence is a complete thought and pay closer attention to article usage and verb tense consistency.
