IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future, more people will choose to go on holiday in their own country and not travel abroad on holiday. Do you agree or disagree?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
According to the survey, people think that the most likely vacation spots will be their own country rather than any international trips. Let's discuss the statement.
To begin with, people are so obsessed with their vacation plans. They like to explore different places all the time. It is true that all countries are developing constantly. Moreover, in the future, people will choose to explore places which they have never been to. For instance, an adventurous place to visit in North India is river rafting, rather than going to any other place in the world. Other places in India are also getting popular, and people will take a chance to visit in the near future.
On the flip side of the coin, it is also a preference of the people to explore foreign countries first whenever they get a chance. Furthermore, they have enough time to visit their own country, but a chance to visit a foreign country, and getting a visa is rare, so one must grab the opportunity to do so. Additionally, in some countries, they have a particular season to visit the place for its beauty. For example, visiting Miami, Florida, in December is the best time to explore, because other countries have winter, but some states in the USA have hot days. So it's better to explore the moment.
After discussing the aforementioned reasons, I truly believe that it is nice to visit our home country first; however, if we get the opportunity in the meantime to explore foreign countries, then we should grab it without any hesitation.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt, but the position is somewhat ambiguous. While you mention that you believe it is nice to visit one's home country, you also argue that one should grab the opportunity to travel abroad. This lack of a clear, consistent stance throughout the essay makes it difficult to follow your central argument. Furthermore, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For example, the mention of river rafting in North India is a specific example, but it is not clearly linked to the broader argument about future travel trends. To improve, ensure your position is clearly stated in the introduction and consistently supported throughout each body paragraph.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use some cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Moreover', and 'On the flip side of the coin'. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical or slightly unnatural in context. The progression of ideas within paragraphs is sometimes disjointed; for instance, the jump from discussing domestic travel to the specific example of Miami in the second body paragraph lacks a smooth logical bridge. Improving the variety and precision of your linking words will help create a more fluid reading experience.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your meaning clearly. You use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'vacation spots', 'international trips', and 'visa'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there is a reliance on simpler, repetitive phrasing such as 'explore' and 'visit'. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more sophisticated collocations and less common lexical items. For example, instead of saying 'people are so obsessed with their vacation plans', you could use 'individuals are increasingly preoccupied with their travel itineraries'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical inaccuracies, such as 'people will take a chance to visit in the near future' and 'in some countries, they have a particular season'. Additionally, there are minor issues with article usage and prepositional phrases. While these errors do not significantly impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and refining your use of complex sentence structures will help improve your accuracy.
