IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future, more people will choose to go on holiday in their own country and not travel abroad on holiday. Do you agree or disagree?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Travelling is an wholesome experience. In the future, many individuals will choose local tourists spots to travel rather than going to a foreign country for a vacation. I completely disagree with it because travelling is an experience and learning about new cultures and places.
Firstly, every individual knows about the culture of their own country. The places would feel familiar and rather same, like the cities, the weather, the food etc. However, when anyone travels abroad it is a relatively a new world they see considering the city, roads, infrastructure, festivals etc. Additionally, the experience would be so magical that they would learn something from it. For instance, people who have travelled to Tokyo opined that the amount of discipline they have seen in people over there is so overwhelming, strict adherence to rules and regulation have made them famous around the world.
Secondly, many people are accustomed to their countries culture and have a great sort of knowledge about their places. When it comes to travelling people tend to get attracted to learning things which they have not seen or heard about in their lifetime. Moreover, such individuals when they travel to a foreign country they enjoy the culture, the food, the places more relating to its cultural significance and to experience something completely unknown. To illustrate, Switzerland is especially known for its culture and mesmerizing locations, it has both the breathtaking views of the cities with mountains and the comfortable life of people living in small villages.
To conclude, travelling is a therapy which heels people. However, it is better to visit abroad considering the benefits it has then to travel locally. Lastly, it is a great learning experience to know about new places.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses the prompt clearly and maintains a consistent position throughout. The arguments regarding the educational and cultural benefits of international travel are relevant and supported by examples, such as the discipline observed in Tokyo and the scenic appeal of Switzerland. However, the development is somewhat repetitive; the two body paragraphs cover very similar ground regarding 'learning' and 'culture'. To reach a higher band, the ideas could be more distinct, perhaps by discussing the economic or environmental aspects of domestic versus international tourism. Overall, the response is well-focused and fulfills the requirements of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct points. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Additionally', 'Moreover', and 'To illustrate' are used to guide the reader through the argument. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing, such as 'the places would feel familiar' without a clear antecedent. Despite these minor flaws, the progression of ideas is clear and easy to follow throughout the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, with some attempts at less common items like 'mesmerizing', 'overwhelming', and 'significance'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'an wholesome experience' (should be 'a'), 'heels people' (should be 'heals'), and 'great sort of knowledge' (which is unnatural). While the range is sufficient to convey meaning clearly, the lack of precision and occasional errors in word formation prevent the response from reaching a higher band. Expanding the range of topic-specific vocabulary would be beneficial.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'it is a relatively a new world' (double article), 'their countries culture' (missing apostrophe), and 'benefits it has then to travel' (should be 'than'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some run-on sentences and minor errors in subject-verb agreement. The majority of the sentences are understandable, but the frequency of these small errors limits the score. Increasing the variety of complex structures while ensuring accuracy would improve the grade.
