In the future, more people will choose to go on holiday in their own country and not travel abroad on holiday. Do you agree or disagree?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 6.5)

Most individuals believe that going on vacation abroad will decrease and people will prefer to go to domestic places in the coming years. I totally disagree with that because people can explore more in other countries, and it is also becoming more budget-friendly. I will give my reasons to support my opinion in the coming paragraphs.

Firstly, enjoying foreign countries has become more accessible. Individuals can access various travel deals and discounts nowadays, making it very convenient for them to enjoy their holidays in different locations. Moreover, People have easier access to information about their flights, and they can book hotels and other accommodations online for a smoother journey. For example, if a person wants to book their flight, they can easily find the airlines' websites and their discounts, and can track their flights easily through their reference number.

Secondly, it can be a wonderful experience for people to explore different cultures and languages abroad. Although some people may face difficulties due to a language barrier, these problems can be easily resolved by using the internet and translator apps. Additionally, people can try different foods and lifestyles, which helps them to learn more about the world. To illustrate, when I came to Canada, I invited my other here to explore this country. She told me that she will never forget this experience of people from all over the world coming to live here, and she saw equality for everyone

To conclude, domestic travel can be a little cheaper than traveling abroad, but it gives lifelong beautiful experiences, which we may not experience in our own country. From my perspective, people will be more attracted to foreign countries in the future due to several reasons.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. You have provided two distinct reasons for your disagreement: the increased accessibility of travel and the cultural benefits of visiting foreign countries. The ideas are relevant and supported by personal examples, such as your experience in Canada. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat basic. To reach a higher band, you should aim to expand on your arguments with more depth or nuance. For instance, instead of just mentioning 'discounts', you could discuss the impact of budget airlines or the global shift toward remote work facilitating longer international stays. The conclusion effectively summarizes your stance, though it introduces a slight contradiction by acknowledging domestic travel is cheaper, which could have been better integrated into the body paragraphs.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized, with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Moreover', 'Additionally', and 'To conclude' to guide the reader through your argument. While the progression of ideas is clear, the use of these devices is somewhat mechanical. To improve, try to vary your linking words and ensure that the transition between sentences is smoother. For example, the shift from discussing flight booking to the cultural experience in the second paragraph could be better connected. Paragraphing is used appropriately, and each paragraph has a clear central topic, which helps maintain the overall coherence of the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, allowing you to express your ideas clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'budget-friendly', 'language barrier', and 'translator apps'. However, the vocabulary is generally quite standard and lacks the precision or sophistication required for a higher band. There are some minor issues with word choice, such as 'invited my other here', which is unclear. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and less common lexical items. For example, instead of 'enjoying foreign countries', you could use 'international tourism' or 'overseas travel'. Expanding your range to include more academic or formal synonyms will significantly enhance your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical errors throughout the text. For instance, 'People have easier access' (unnecessary capitalization of 'People'), 'invited my other here' (likely meant 'mother'), and 'she will never forget' (should be 'would never forget' to maintain sequence of tenses). These errors do not impede communication, but they do indicate a need for more careful proofreading. To achieve a higher band, you should aim for more error-free sentences and demonstrate greater control over complex structures, such as conditional sentences or passive voice, while ensuring they are used accurately.
