Student answer (Band 6.5)

It is often argued that in the future most people will choose to go on holiday in their own country while many do not agree with this view. They believe individuals will prefer travelling abroad on holidays. I completely agree with this view. This essay will explain the reasons and give relevant examples for my opinion.

To begin with, in the future many individuals will prefer exploring new countries rather than their own country this is because they want to understand the day-to-day routine and experience the lifestyle of that country. For example, the way U.S and India operates is totally different. The schooling, healthcare, housing facilities, government benefits etc are very different from each other. If given a change to experience the change and explore its pros and cons anybody would choose to do so.

Secondly, travelling not only helps in gaining knowledge in terms of living but it also helps in building personal and communication skills and learn new culture. For instance, when individuals interact and communicate with others they built confidence and learn to present themselves in front of others additionally they also develop language skills. Moreover, every place has its own culture which can be learned and explored.

To conclude, I believe that people would prefer to go on holidays to another country rather than their own because they can gain personal and communication skills also learn new traditions. Additionally, it helps in understanding how a country works in day to day life and helps in experiencing the lifestyle of that particular place. Whereas, all these factors cannot be achieved visiting the same country over and over gain.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. The ideas are relevant, focusing on the educational and personal benefits of international travel. However, the development is somewhat limited; while you provide examples like comparing the US and India, the explanation of how these differences specifically influence holiday choices could be more deeply explored. The conclusion restates the main points effectively, but the essay would benefit from a more nuanced discussion of why domestic tourism might be less appealing to some, rather than just focusing on the benefits of international travel. Overall, the task is addressed, but the depth of argument is at a mid-range level.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. You use some cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Secondly', and 'Moreover' to link your points. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions are slightly repetitive. For example, the connection between the second paragraph's focus on 'living' and 'communication skills' could be smoother. Referencing is generally clear, though some sentences are slightly disjointed, which prevents the essay from reaching a higher band for cohesion.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'lifestyle', 'communication skills', and 'traditions'. There are some instances of slightly awkward phrasing, such as 'the way U.S and India operates' (should be 'operate') and 'given a change' (likely meant 'chance'). While you attempt to use more sophisticated vocabulary, the range is somewhat limited, and there is a reliance on simpler, repetitive structures. To improve, try to incorporate more precise collocations and topic-specific vocabulary related to tourism and cultural exchange to enhance the sophistication of your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('U.S and India operates') and punctuation errors (missing commas in complex sentences). There is also a run-on sentence in the first paragraph ('...own country this is because...'). While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Increasing the variety of complex structures and ensuring better control over basic grammar, particularly subject-verb agreement and punctuation, will help improve your score in this criterion.
