Student answer (Band 6.0)

In recent years, people's holiday preferences have been significantly changing. In upcoming years, more people will choose to spend their vacations in their own nations as compared to overseas destinations. I totally disagree with this because travelling in abroad allow individuals to broaden their horizon and enhance their knowledge.

To begin with, people would be more likely to spend their holidays in abroad because it gives an opportunity to travelers to get knowledge about different cultures and history of the overseas nations. During travelling individuals get information about rules and regulations of different cities. For example, when people spend their vacations in overseas countries it give chance to them to try different restaurants and their cuisines. Therefore, travel abroad on holidays will might give you an offer to improve your ability and focus.

Moreover, while travelling in foreign countries people may get an opportunity to meet locals with whom they can exchange their thoughts and make friends. In addition, many travelers might be able to learn different languages from citizens to make their journey more enjoyable. For instance, youngsters often like to spend their holidays in abroad because they want to explore the whole world and take a chance to try new things.

However, spending holidays in their own country give a chance to people to know more about your history and culture. It also save the expenses of travel journeys.

In conclusion, although travelling in a country could save money and time, but overseas countries provides more opportunities to travelers by enhancing their abilities and knowledge.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. The arguments regarding the benefits of international travel are relevant, though the development is somewhat repetitive. For instance, the points about 'knowledge' and 'culture' are mentioned in both the first and second body paragraphs. The counter-argument in the fourth paragraph is brief and lacks sufficient depth to fully balance the essay. To reach a higher band, you should ensure each paragraph introduces a distinct, well-supported idea rather than restating similar concepts. Overall, the response is relevant and the position is consistent.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Moreover', and 'In conclusion' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'Therefore, travel abroad on holidays will might give you an offer'. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly in the final paragraph where the shift between domestic and international travel is abrupt. Improving the flow between sentences and ensuring that pronouns clearly refer to their antecedents would enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. There are frequent errors in collocation, such as 'travelling in abroad' (should be 'travelling abroad') and 'give chance to them' (should be 'give them a chance'). The phrasing is often repetitive, relying on basic structures like 'get knowledge' or 'spend their holidays'. While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of sophisticated or less common lexical items limits the score. To improve, focus on learning natural collocations and using more precise verbs and adjectives to express your ideas.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Common issues include incorrect preposition usage ('in abroad'), subject-verb agreement ('overseas countries it give chance'), and awkward modal verb construction ('will might give'). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but the sentence structure often feels clunky due to these persistent errors. To achieve a higher band, you need to demonstrate better control over complex sentence forms and ensure that basic grammatical rules, such as article usage and verb tense consistency, are applied accurately.
