Student answer (Band 5.5)
The question about either enjoying holiday destination at your homeland or to travel abroad is a dogmatic one. The substantial influence of this trend has sparked controversy over the potential impact. Although travelling abroad is a great exposure particularly for personality development and professional growth, but choosing your own country has the real charm you always enjoy. I partially agree with the statement and personally believe to adopt a combined approach for sustainability.
Those who advocate for domestic tourism argue that it's our responsibility to maintain our country's dignity despite whatever chances you got for excellence. Furthermore, it boosts country's economy by promoting culture, traditions and rituals for tourists. Such practices gain huge funds, and local authorities invest it in preserving the glorification and maintenance of artifacts. Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt by discussing both domestic and international tourism, though the position is somewhat ambiguous. The essay is incomplete, ending abruptly mid-sentence, which prevents a full development of the conclusion. Furthermore, the response falls short of the 250-word minimum requirement. While the ideas are relevant, the lack of a finished conclusion and the failure to meet the length requirement significantly impact the overall task achievement. To improve, ensure all parts of the argument are fully developed and that the essay reaches the required word count to allow for a comprehensive conclusion.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay uses paragraphing to separate different viewpoints, which helps the reader follow the structure. Cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'Moreover', and 'In conclusion' are used to link ideas. However, the progression of ideas is sometimes hindered by awkward phrasing, such as the transition between the introduction and the body paragraphs. The abrupt ending of the essay also disrupts the logical flow. While there is an attempt at organization, the mechanical nature of some transitions and the incomplete final paragraph limit the coherence of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, with some attempts at more sophisticated language like 'dogmatic', 'proponents', and 'mundane'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'we enchanted more towards our history' (should be 'drawn towards') and 'online booth' (likely meaning 'platforms'). These errors occasionally impede the clarity of the message. To reach a higher band, focus on using collocations more accurately and ensuring that vocabulary is used in the correct context rather than just attempting complex-sounding words.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('everyone have a right') and incorrect preposition usage ('holiday destination at your homeland'). There are also issues with sentence fragments and awkward phrasing, such as 'not to spouil country's dign'. While the meaning is usually clear, the frequency of errors is noticeable and detracts from the overall quality of the writing. Increasing the variety of error-free complex sentences and proofreading for basic agreement and tense consistency would improve the score.
