Student answer (Band 6.5)

Holidays are a source of a healthy break for both body and mind from the monotonous routine and busy work schedules. The main idea for vacations is to get away from the usual surroundings and this can be done both by visiting some new places within the country or going abroad. In my opinion, people will choose their own country for holidays in the future rather than any foreign country.

With time, the inflation has increased across the whole world, leading to an increase in the travel cost, making it difficult to afford. Local trips are easy to plan and can be impromptu as well, not requiring long term planning whereas international tours require planning ahead of time, like getting visas and all important documentation. For instance, the visa rejection ratio for Pakistanis is high, making people turn towards the mountains in the north for recreational purposes and peace.

Since the world has become a global village, the activities that were previously limited to some countries are now being done all over the world, hence people would prefer to stay in their own country and enjoy at cheaper rates. There has also been a trend to promote local products and economy, and tourism within the country is one of the best ways to achieve this goal.

To summarise, although travelling abroad comes with a range of benefits like cross cultural exposure and promoting peace among people from various countries, in the long run, travelling within a country is more beneficial on both individual and national levels. Hence, in the future, people are more likely to plan trips within their own country mainly due to financial and patriotic reasons.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the task and maintains a clear position throughout. You have provided relevant reasons for your opinion, such as financial constraints and the ease of local travel. The example regarding visa rejection rates for Pakistanis is specific and effectively supports your argument. However, some ideas could be developed further; for instance, the point about the 'global village' is a bit vague and could be more explicitly linked to why this specifically encourages domestic tourism over international travel. Overall, the response is well-focused and meets the requirements of the prompt effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central theme, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow. You use cohesive devices such as 'For instance,' 'Since,' and 'To summarise' to link your points. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and the flow between the second and third paragraphs could be smoother. The use of referencing is generally clear, and the paragraphing is appropriate for the task. The structure supports the overall argument well.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your ideas with precision. Phrases like 'monotonous routine,' 'impromptu,' and 'cross cultural exposure' show a good command of language. There are some minor issues with collocation and word choice, such as 'enjoy at cheaper rates' (which could be 'enjoy holidays at a lower cost') and 'getting visas and all important documentation' (which is slightly informal). Despite these minor inaccuracies, the vocabulary is adequate for the task and allows for clear communication of your arguments.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. Most sentences are clear and error-free, though there are occasional slips, such as 'the inflation has increased' (which should be 'inflation has increased') and 'getting visas and all important documentation' (which lacks a formal structure). Punctuation is generally accurate, and your control over complex sentences is sufficient to maintain clarity. While you do not use a wide variety of highly complex grammatical structures, the ones you do use are mostly accurate and do not impede communication.
