Student answer (Band 7.0)

It is often predicted that people will prefer to travel within their own nation rather overseas to spend their holidays. However, I disagree with this prediction because of the human desire to explore the unknown and ease of air-travel along with introduction of overseas travel packages.

To commence with, humans have an in-built curiosity to explore unvisited places in order to broaden their horizons. This means that traveling to new places gives them a unique experience which they do not get when they travel locally to limited familiar spots. Since visiting unknown places satisfies their quest to explore, people presently travel abroad for holidays and it is certain that this trend will persist in coming times as well. For instance, a statistic published by Air Canada on purpose of air travel of passengers in 2025 illustrated that more than half of the international air flight passengers travelled for holiday purposes.

Another contributing factor is the ease of overseas air travel in present times and definitely in future. This is because multiple airline companies not only offer cheaper international air flights to famous global travel cities but also offer lucrative all-inclusive international holiday packages to their clients. Additionally, advancements in airplane industry has made long travels more convenient even for families with small kids by upgrading their facilities. As a result, many individuals get attracted to such offers and consequently opt to travel to foreign hot spots destinations.

In conclusion, I maintain my stance on disagreement that more people will choose to go on domestic holidays instead of international because I believe the otherwise, owing to natural human instinct to explore unknown and convenient hassle-free overseas air travel.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

You have clearly addressed the prompt by taking a firm stance against the idea that domestic tourism will replace international travel. Your position is consistent throughout the essay. You provide two main supporting arguments: the human desire for exploration and the increasing accessibility of international travel. These ideas are well-developed with relevant examples, such as the mention of airline packages and the convenience of modern air travel. To reach a higher band, ensure that your examples are fully integrated; for instance, the reference to 'Air Canada 2025' is a bit specific and hypothetical, but it serves the purpose of supporting your argument well. Overall, the response is focused and directly answers the prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph focuses on a single main idea, which helps the reader follow your argument easily. You use cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'Additionally', and 'As a result' to link your ideas. While the flow is generally smooth, some transitions could be more sophisticated to avoid a slightly mechanical feel. Referencing is clear throughout, and the progression of ideas from the psychological need to travel to the practical ease of travel is logical and effective.

Lexical Resource — Band 7.0

You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary, using terms like 'broaden their horizons', 'lucrative all-inclusive', and 'natural human instinct'. These choices are appropriate for the context and show an ability to use less common items. There are a few minor collocation issues, such as 'foreign hot spots destinations' (which is redundant) and 'in coming times' (which is slightly unnatural). However, these errors do not impede communication. To improve, focus on refining collocations and using more precise academic phrasing to elevate the tone of your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures effectively. There is good control over grammar, and the majority of your sentences are error-free. You successfully use complex structures, such as 'This is because multiple airline companies not only offer... but also offer...'. There are occasional minor slips, such as 'advancements in airplane industry has' (should be 'the airplane industry have') and 'I believe the otherwise' (which is grammatically awkward). Despite these small errors, your control over punctuation and sentence variety is strong enough to support clear communication throughout the essay.
